The mood of today’s engagement shoot is positively romantic. With a desire to capture the spirit of the 1940s and 1950s, Erika and Tim joined with Special Memories Photography to bring their love of everything vintage to life with a shoot that is beautiful in its old world romance.
Erika tells the story of how they came to be. “I (Erika) was a 16 year old high school student working my after school job at Muffin Break in the Richmond Mall, Nelson NZ. It was just an ordinary day when this guy in basketball gear & long swishy brown hair walked past and caught my eye, he didn’t drop eye contact for what felt like hours! He then he came over and spoke quickly to my manager. Once he left, my manager came up to me and gave me a piece of paper, she said “that hot guy asked me to give this to you” ! The note said ‘Tim’ with his mobile number. The next day I messaged Tim and said “Hi- I’m Erika, from Muffin Break!” Tim invited me to paintball that weekend, and that was our first date.”
On what Tim loves about Erika, he says “Erika is my rock. She encourages me to always be the best I can & I know that with her by my side I can do anything.”
On what she loves about Tim, Erika tells, ” I love that Tim is the most energetic person I know. His positive and fun personality is contagious to everyone who surrounds him. I love that he is a deep & thoughtful person, his care for people amazes me everyday.”
As for how Tim proposed, Erika recalls, “It was our 4 year anniversary on a Friday night, we had planned to go out for dinner. After work I came home to get ready, Tim was running late (later I found out this was because Tim was on the phone to my dad/ picking up the ring) once Tim got home we headed to dinner at port side Brisbane. Tim handed me an envelope, the paper was sparkly & had printed on it a list of things to pack – he said when we go home this is what you need to pack, we are going away for a week! I was shocked as my work week was so busy, Tim had already organized with my work for me to have the week off! (He’s so sneaky!)
The next morning we went to the airport, I got a 2nd envelope which held tickets to KL, Malaysia. This was so exciting! However we were only there for a short stop over. At the airport in KL Tim gave me a 3rd envelope, I opened it – tickets to Paris! Yes he is a romantic! Early Sunday morning we checked into a beautiful room, went for breakfast & that afternoon Tim had planned a horse & carriage ride around Paris, I loved every second of it! Felt like a true princess. That night we brought matching hats and got hot chocolate, we waited till dark to see the Eiffel Tour light show – the light show was about to start, Tim said to me – ‘quick, stand up so you can get a photo’ I stood up,camera ready. I turned back around and Tim was on one knee with a beautiful ring.”
Erika remarks ,”Tim and I have done some photo shoots in the past were we wore nice / formal outfits. I wanted to be more adventurous with the theme for our engagement shoot and have some fun with it. After some research & photo inspo I fall in love with the vintage/ 50’s theme. It is sweet, romantic and cheeky all at once.”

Very stylish, I particularly like the use of earth tone pants and skirt against the back-lit foliage.
George.
