The romantic 1950s feeling of this inspiration shoot tickled my fancy. It’s subtle enough to be perfectly at home in a wedding you might witness tomorrow, yet still has the beauty and nostalgia of a time gone by.
Conceived by Amanda and Matt of Matt Rowe Photography the shoot was filled with subtle detail that evokes simple glamour with a touch of Spring. Amanda tells, “Our brides love a themed wedding, perhaps it is the idea of capturing some sense of nostalgia or re-creating the glamour from times gone by, but those early decades of the last century are certainly making a hit this wedding season. This styled shoot inspiration stemmed from Betty the Bentley (who has a brother – Berti) and evolved with a whole lot of love to result in one amazing inspired shoot. Taking Betty’s 1950s beginnings we crafted the theme with real couple Clea and Ben (getting married in August).”
The groom was dressed in a dapper navy suit with taupe waistcoat from Suits Direct. Amanda explains, “What excited us was fashioning our groom and allowing a focus on groom’s styling (so often overlooked) and this handsome rendition of 50s inspired styling had us whooping with delight when he stepped out as the perfect gentleman.”
A bouquet of yellow white and green set the scene, Amanda noting, “Florist Ginger Lily Rose created some amazing florals (including a floral crown!) incorporating pearls and feathers to capture the vintage elements. Flowers chosen for the pieces were seasonal ones in white. Peonies, paperwhite narcissus, lisianthus, cottage roses and soft foliage.”
Hair stylist Hair4Brides and makeup artist Natalie Hunter Makeup Artistry styled the “bride’s” look.
The “bride” wore a 1950s tea length gown from Marilyn Crystelle Bridal called the “Gemma”. A vintage inspired ivory frock, the gown, made of silk chiffon features delicate French lace with a sheer illusion neckline and 3/4 fitted sleeves. The back of the dress has a low plunging neckline and finishes off with button details meeting a satin waistband.
“Colour is such an essential part of a themed wedding and while we wanted the Bentley to shine the pop of colour on Clea’s lips, her shoes and the styling of her handsome groom perfectly suited our natural setting on the Maleny Hinterland.”
Was a pleasure to be asked to style hair for this shoot. Had a ball love what I do styling hair. XXX Thanks Matt
