Amelia and Kurt
I honestly never get tired of black tie weddings. Nothing says occasion like dressing up in a bow-tie and beautiful gown and today’s black tie country wedding has the most wonderful mix of a relaxed country vibe with the glamour of black tie. Amelia and Kurt chose Jason Vandermeer Photography to capture their wedding day for them!
The newlyweds tell their tale of how they came to be. “We met while working at a bar in Carlton. Between pouring drinks, cleaning up at the end of the night and walking back to our homes through the park, we got to know each other pretty well.”
The groom and groomsmen wore suits by Godwin Charli.
Amelia chose a stunning Helen English gown she purchased on eBay. She carried a trailing bouquet by Foxglove Botanicals who created the floral arrangements for the day.
The couple met before the ceremony for photographs so they could spend more time with their guests.
Of their photographer, Amelia and Kurt note, “Jason Vandermeer was our photographer. We chose Jason because of his approach to capturing the vibe of events without the cheese. He arrived super early, captured our important moments and got on so well with our guests. We barely noticed him, until he came to say goodbye at about midnight. We were really happy with the 600 odd photos Jason sent us and we couldn’t recommend him highly enough.”
Mingela Homestead hosted the entire wedding celebration, Amelia and Kurt remarking, “We decided to have both the ceremony and following reception at Mingela Homestead. It is a beautiful homestead surrounded by trees, a creek and overlooks a valley. The house itself was amazing and with 12 beds, a fireplace and beautiful decor, we were able to stay for the entire weekend with our bridal party and relax pre and post wedding.”
Amelia and Kurt, together with their families decorated, sourced and made many of the wedding elements themselves, noting, “We spent months collecting furniture, silverware, champagne saucers, whiskey tumblers, jars and decorations from op shops and eBay. Min’s mum was incredible and supported us the whole way through. She collected, sewed, baked and held us together when it all seemed a bit hard and we wished we had gone the simpler road and chosen a venue. It definitely was a labor of love, but worth the effort seeing it all come together in the end. “
Amelia walked down the aisle to Al Green’s Light My Fire.
Blakes Feast catered the wedding dinner which included treats like sliders!
Of their first dance, the newlyweds remember, “We weren’t sure about the whole dance thing, but like with most details of the wedding, did it for our guests. We had a few lessons and successfully made it through 120 odd seconds of the fox trot to The 2 Bears’ Bear Hug. Something a little different which definitely got a few laughs.”
Amelia and Kurt hired The Melbourne Band to keep guests dance on the floor – it worked! They tell, “We loved having an amazing band and song list to keep the dance floor pumping while the band took a break. We danced until 2am.”
Congratulations Amelia and Kurt! Thank you for sharing your wedding day with us! Thank you to Jason Vandermeer Photography for sharing today’s black tie celebration!
