Katie and Dan
Katie and Dan infused their day with not only plenty of glitter, but plenty of love as well. Marrying at twilight, the couple chose the one venue (Hillstone St Lucia) to ensure guests could make the most of their time at the celebration. They chose Kate of Quince & Mulberry Studios to capture their wedding day.
Katie tells the story of how they met. “We were uni sweethearts. We met when we were 17 and 18 and have been fortunate enough to grow together and become best friends, partners and finally husband and wife.”
Special tokens filled the day, Katie explaining, “I wore my grandmother’s engagement ring as my something old and borrowed. It’s a beautiful bow shape and I’ve always loved it. It was really special to me that my Dad and uncle allowed me to borrow something so special. As my Dad’s parents have passed away it was nice to remember them on the day. They were amazing people and I’m glad I was able to incorporate something about them into the day.” Katie chose a bridal gown from Allure and her bridesmaids chose pale pink gowns from Sheike, Forever New and White Runway.
One of Katie’s favourite moments of the day was with her maid of honour. She tells, “My maid of honour walked into the room just as my dress was buttoned up and burst into tears – which immediately set me off. Neither of us expected to have such an emotional reaction on the day. At least we’ll be prepared when she gets married in September!”
Of their decision to marry at Hillstone St Lucia, Katie remarks, “We had both our wedding and reception at Hillstone St Lucia. We didn’t want our guests to have to move from place to place. It is so close to our home so it is lots of fun to go there for breakfast every so often and reminisce!”
Katie remembers, “I walked down the aisle to How Long Will I Love You by Ellie Goulding – and I still can’t listen to it without getting butterflies in my tummy!”
Joshua Withers Wedding Celebrant performed the ceremony. Katie remembering, “We’d had a rehearsal of the ceremony the day before the wedding, and that was the first time that we had heard each other’s vows (and our own) out loud. We both really struggled to get through them because tears were streaming down both of our faces. That moment is as special to me as our actual ceremony because it reminds me how lucky we are to love and be loved so strongly.”
The couple chose special readings, Katie explaining, “One of my bridesmaids read the children’s book ‘A Lovely Love Story’ by Edward Monkton during our ceremony. It’s a story about two dinosaurs that fall in love. It was incredibly sweet and even the people who had been sceptical of our choice of reading loved it and thought it was funny and touching.”
Of their photographer, Katie remarks, “Kate from Quince and Mulberry was absolutely incredible – from the moment we met we knew that she was the perfect fit for us and we could not recommend her highly enough. She captures moments so beautifully and naturally. We wanted the special candid moments of the day to be captured. Hopefully one day she’ll be taking pictures of our babies!”
Guests received one of two handmade favors, Katie tells, “We DIY’d our bonbonnieres. We had an alternate drop of honey from my grandpa’s bees and traditional cookies made my Dan’s Mum. ” Senna Jean Designs created the stationery for the day and Standout Events styled the tables.
Guests were welcome to take a blanket to keep warm, Katie explaining, “It was so cold the week before the wedding that my maid of honour and I decided to put together a blanket station just in case! So much of the wedding was outside and we didn’t want our family to freeze!”
For the first dance, Katie remembers, “Dan picked All Of Me by John Legend for our first dance and I could not have picked better! It was such a beautiful few minutes, and really lovely to have a few minutes of peace together as so much of the day is so busy and those moments are so few and so precious!”
Congratulations on your marriage Katie and Dan! Thank you for sharing your day with us! Thank you also to Quince & Mulberry Studios for sharing today’s wedding with us!
