Katelyn and Dave
We really don’t feature enough beautiful cocktail weddings at Polka Dot Bride, so I am thrilled to bring you the cocktail style celebration of Katelyn and Dave who married on the most glorious of days at a stunning winery. Captured by Jason Vandermeer Photography, the wedding has Queen songs, a man of honour, and beautiful blue hydrangeas. Every element held special meaning for the newlyweds.
Katelyn tells their story. “We met at a local bar and struck up a great friendship. About 12 months later I was overseas and received an email from Dave, he was inviting me to a wedding when I got back. It was when we were at this wedding that things changed. And we have been together ever since.”
Katelyn chose a gorgeous wedding gown from Amaline Vitale.
Foxglove Botanicals created the floral arrangements for the day, Katelyn remarking, “Foxglove Botanicals put in so much effort to make our day special. We really wanted to have blue hydrangea as our wedding flowers and everyone we spoke to said it couldn’t be done. When I explained to Cara and Luke why the flowers meant so much to us, they said that if they had to they would find them out of someone’s garden to make it happen. (They were only joking but they did make it happen).”
Jennifer Edwards created the jewels for the day. Katelyn noting “We were so lucky with the people that we met in the process of planning our wedding. We found that so many people we were working with went above and beyond to make our day special. First of all was Jennifer Edwards who made our engagement and wedding rings. She put so much work into designing and making our rings. They were perfect. She also lent me all of the jewellery for our wedding day. I felt like a princes, the pieces that she lent me were all pieces that she had designed herself and they were beautiful.”
Katelyn and Dave chose Morning Star Estate for their wedding celebration. Katelyn tells, “Our wedding venue was beautiful. It is a stunning winery with a rustic restaurant. We were married in the rose gardens that looks out over the bay.”
For the processional, Katelyn remembers, “I walked down the aisle to Queen’s song “You’re My Best Friend” which our band performed acoustically. It was a surprise for my husband who is a huge Queen fan.”
Of their photographer Jason, Katelyn remarks, “Our photographer was amazing. We feel so lucky that he was such a big part of our day. We have loved Jason’s photography ever since we saw his first blog. We really wanted someone to be able to capture our day and that is exactly what he did. He told a story of the day through his photos and that’s something we will have forever. We didn’t have to plan or think about anything – he went to the location and found beautiful spots. He met with us to see what we wanted for the day and then he just made it all happen. Jason is so laid back, he fitted into Dave’s and my families in the morning and a lot of the time you didn’t even think about the camera being there.”
Katelyn chose to have a Man Of Honour in her bridal party, explaining, “Our wedding was more about the small touches and being surrounded by family and friends. We didn’t stick to tradition unless it meant something to us. I had a man of honour instead of a maid of honour and it was the best decision I made. He helped me with all the details and at the end of the day it was important to have my closest friend standing there with me.”
Simon Imrei & Dylan Boyd performed the tunes for the occasion, Katelyn noting, “Our band Simon and Dylan were amazing, I wanted to surprise Dave with the song I walked down the aisle to and they made it happen. They were with us all day playing accoustically in the gardens during the day and then inside for the evening and they were amazing. Simon also MC’d the night, he went above and beyond to make our day special.”
The wedding dance was sweet and romantic, Katelyn remembering, “Our first dance was to John Legend’s song “All Of Me”. We didn’t really rehearse our dance until the day before the wedding so it was more just about the moment. In a really busy day it was so nice to dance with my new husband.”
Congratulations Katelyn and Dave! Thank you for sharing your day with us! Thank you also to Jason Vandermeer Photography for sharing today’s wedding!
Katelyn is one of my dearest friends and it was such an honor to see her marry the love of her life. Their wedding was so beautiful and the simplicity of it really showcased their style and attitude. Loved it.
Love every detail of the wedding, wish you be happy forever.
