Allissa and Jack
Wineries always make such wonderful backdrops for weddings, the scenery is undoubtedly beautiful and there is not only the romance of a wine making in the air but with a marriage, the love story unfolding. Pair that with a rustic style barrel room and you have a wedding that I want to dive right in to. Today’s celebration is captured by the lovely Trent and Jessie.
Allissa kicks us off with their story. “Jack and I met each other at our church youth group when we were both in high school. We’d been dating for 5 years before Jack popped the question whilst we were on an overseas trip in Chile.”
Allissa kept her family with her, through her jewels, remembering, ” I loved wearing my Nan’s pearls and having my grandma’s handkerchief with me on the day.”
For her wedding gown, Allissa found a second hand San Patrick dress which was re-imagined for her. She tells, “My dress was a secondhand San Patrick, Rama that we bought online but that came 4 sizes too big. My neighbour saved the day though and altered and redesigned the dress to fit me. So really, my dress turned out to be an original design!” Her bridesmaids wore pale pink dresses from Forever New.
Allissa and Jack married at Sirromet Winery. Allissa explaining, “Jack and I chose Sirromet as our wedding venue after visiting the winery one day and being blown away with how picturesque it was. And we couldn’t have been happier with our decision, the staff were all very friendly and accommodating and the food was amazing!”
Allissa was walked down the aisle by her mother and father. She explains, “Having both my mother and my father walk me down the aisle – they both strongly felt they’d worked together to raise me and so they both wanted to give me away on my wedding day.” They walked to Pachelbel’s Canon In D played on acoustic guitar with an arrangement by Per Olov Kindgren.
“The pastor who married us has known us both since before we started dating. He has been a great mentor to us both, so it was such a blessing for him to be the one to marry us.”
One of Allissa’s favourite memories was walking back down the aisle. She remembers, “The flowers that starred in that amazing aisle photo (one of our most favourite shots!) were a completely last minute idea. At Sirromet we weren’t allowed to use synthetic flowers, so the flowers we had were a result of family members running around and stripping all the flowers off the trees of Brisbane on the morning of the wedding!”
The groom surprised his new wife with a very special bottle of bubbles. She tells, “Jack organised a surprise bottle of sparkling wine for the bridal party to drink during photos. It was the exact same sparkling wine we drank in Chile after Jack had proposed, he’d organised for one of the groomsmen to bring it with him on his return flight from Chile to Australia.”
Guests were welcomed into the Barrel Room for a sit down dinner.
Of their DIY efforts for the day, Allissa remembers, “The table decorations were a result of keeping all of our used wine bottles and spaghetti sauce jars. Lace doilies were bought from our church garage sale. The table numbers were a gift from a friend, whose wife also lent us her old suitcases and chalkboards. My mother and nan helped sew all of the hessian overlays. Creating all the little details of the wedding was such a team effort! The fact that so many people helped is what made it so special.”
For their first dance, the newlyweds had a little help, Allissa telling, “The song we chose was “I won’t give up” by Jason Mraz. The lyrics of the chorus were the exact words we wanted to be promising to each other on our wedding day. We didn’t have formal dance lessons either, Jack’s grandparents took us out for a night at their senior’s club and that’s how we learnt how to waltz.”
The first dance was memorable, but it was what followed that remains etched in the bride’s memories. Allissa tells, “To this day I do not know who pulled it off, but the first upbeat song that came on after the slow dancing was ‘Hakuna Matata’ from Disney’s The Lion King! And it would have been really embarrassing, except for the fact that everyone at the wedding started singing along – and they knew ALL the words!”
