Kelly & Isaiah
Kelly and Isaiah chose a beautiful harbourside park in Sydney for their Spring wedding before heading to the historic Rocks district to celebrate with their guests. Choosing an intimate format they did away with the bridal party and kept the day to just them and their loved ones. There’s a sense of simple romance to their day, which was captured by Kellee Walsh.
Kelly tells how they met. “We met at an alternative nightclub in Sydney. The music was so loud that when Isaiah approached me to introduce himself he had to show me his driver’s licence so I understood his name. It was then I noticed we lived only a few streets apart in Sydney’s Inner West. When we began dating we were equally impressed by each other’s music collection, our first date was seeing a punk band at a local venue and this is a shared interest that has continued.”
Kelly chose a classic gown from Anna Campbell with ‘Katy’ Glamour Puss shoes from Wanted a ‘Viva’ beaded cuff from Millie Icaro and hairpiece from Percy Handmade.
Groom Isaiah wore Uberstone from David Jones.
Kelly and Isaiah were married at lloura Reserve East Balmain Kelly telling, “We loved the idea of an outdoor wedding and are lucky to live so close to Illoura Reserve with such amazing Sydney Harbour views. There is a beautiful, secluded waterfront niche in the park with a stone staircase that made for a grand entrance. We enjoyed going to the park in the lead up to the wedding, as afterwards we’d treat ourselves to Adrian Zumbo macaroons in Balmain on the way home.” Events by Jennifer set up and styled the ceremony.
Kelly notes, “We chose to not have a bridal party. With a small guest list we wanted a relaxed party vibe rather than a traditionally scheduled wedding. It was lovely and romantic, just the two of us.”
Fiona Dacombe performed the ceremony.
Of their photography, Kelly tells, “I came across our photographer Kellee Walsh online. One look at her website and I was in love with her style. Her images and composition were all so fresh and light, quite unique. We both enjoyed her sweet and relaxing personality, it’s so obvious she has a passion for her work! We’re thrilled with our photos and are so happy to have such beautiful images, to have forever.”
Making the most of Sydney Harbour, the newlyweds chose Wolfies Grill for their reception, Kelly telling, “Most of our guests took the ferry to our reception venue in the Rocks, thoroughly enjoyed by our out of town guests. Our reception was held at Wolfies in the Rocks. The Harbour View room perfectly suited our 50 guests, spacious yet intimate with a separate bar and cocktail lounge area. It was the first and only venue we viewed as we knew immediately that it was the place for us. Gorgeous original sandstone features, timber beams and of course its impressive views of Sydney Harbour and the Opera House. The venue wedding manager Lauren was a pleasure to meet with. She understood the vibe I wanted to create. The Wolfies staff were always responsive and accommodating to our requests.”
Guests received rock candy in light blue and white with stars from The Professors and boxed into brown boxes from Etsy.
Menus were pasted inside old books.
The Cake Studio created a ruffled wedding cake. Kelly remarking, ” The wooden couple cake topper from Love Birds Goods was customised to look like us. They got the details spot on, right done to the buttons on my dress and beaded cuff on my wrist.”
“The DIY details was what I enjoyed the most about the whole planning process. To suit our rustic, vintage type theme we collected dozens of vintage hardcover books. It was weekends worth of trips to Vinnies all across Sydney. I used books as menus for each table. The same printed paper was used in the framed table numbers and seating plan. It was a labour of love- Isaiah helping to cut hessian table runners, hand painting and sanding back framed table numbers.”
“Instead of a traditional guest book we had a Jenga game set. Future board game nights will remind us of all the best wishes from our day.”
Flowers On Norton St created the floral arrangements for the day, Kelly noting, “Flowers on Norton St put together stunning arrangements and did a amazing job styling the venue. They used my DIY elements in a way that was even better than I’d imagined. Unstructured floral centrepieces sat upon rustic timber rounds and various bottle vases were on dining tables and in addition to the signing table, framed photos of our parents’ weddings.”
For their first dance, Kelly and Isaiah danced to,”We found each other in the Dark- City and Colour”. Adding, “We both love the song and the artist. We thought it was very fitting, considering we quite literally met each other in the dark – of a nightclub! We practiced dancing only enough not to embarrass ourselves. It was the only time I cried throughout the whole day. It was such a special intimate moment, dancing to such a beautiful melancholic song, we felt we were the only two in the room.”
