Brooke and James
I am a little in love with the gorgeous wisteria in today’s engagement shoot. Something about beautiful blooms adds such a romantic touch to photographs don’t you think? Brooke and James took their romantic wisteria filled engagement photos with photographer Angela Rose Woods of Butterfly Bones Photography in a hidden park in Sydney. They plan to marry later this year in Berrima.
Brooke tells their romantic love story. “James and I met during our first weeks at university. We soon became friends and stayed that way for the next 5 long years. Even though we were interested in each other, it proved somewhat difficult to overcome the friendship barrier. I understood just how much I was into him when a mutual friend tried to set him up with someone else – I quickly put a stop to that.
As soon as I realised, I have to say I was a little scared to take a chance because our friendship was so important to me. After uni finished, we made an effort to catch up and the more we did, the more the catch ups felt like dates. Finally, on a night out we gave each other a glimpse of our feelings and we’ve never looked back since.”
“We love how we make each other laugh everyday, we are best friends and simply love being in each other’s company.”
Brooke recounts the proposal story. “In the lead up to our 5 year anniversary I basically told James to surprise me with something romantic. I was expecting a nice home cooked dinner or something along those lines.
Instead, James organised a weekend away and booked us into a beautiful room that overlooked the valley at Lillianfels in the Blue Mountains. We organised a long walk into the valley and after 2 hours we reached the summit of the walk and set up lunch. At this point I was still unaware, probably distracted by the amazing view.
Apparently over this time, James was desperately trying to work out what he was going to say – he’d organised everything else but had forgotten to think about what to say! I was packing up getting ready to leave when I noticed that James was acting a bit strange and the next thing I know he’s down on one knee. I immediately covered my face and burst in to tears so I didn’t hear what he had to say, nor did I see the ring. I just shouted yes! Within a few minutes it started raining heavily and we had a 2 hour walk back although nothing could have wiped the smiles off our faces.”
Of one of their funnier relationship moments, Brooke remembers, “James calls himself the hopeless romantic, with emphasis on the hopeless. There are a few examples of this that always get me giggling. We never make a big deal of Valentines day but surprisingly last year a dozen roses with a card arrived at my workplace. James had ordered them online but in the section where you’re supposed to write a loving message, he left ‘no message’ in the text box. The florist clearly thought this was intentional so went to the effort of hand writing ‘no message’ in the card accompanying my roses- bless. Running home for love. No message.”
Of their photographer, Brooke tells, “Angela from Butterfly Bones Photography has got a certain whimsical, romantic style that we just loved. She made us feel so relaxed and the shoot itself was so much fun. We didn’t quite know where to go for our engagement photos so Angela recommended this park, a hidden gem in Sydney. It was a warm spring day, the wisteria was in full bloom and it provided the perfect setting – we couldn’t be happier with the results.”
Such a beautiful, romantic setting. Gorgeous!
Where is this park?
Jason – this is Muston Park in Chatswood, NSW. It’s not wisteria season at the moment, but when it is, this park is out-of-control amazing!
