Anesa & Matt
You know that joy you see on somebody’s face when they’ve just gotten engaged? Matt worked with photographer Rita Slattery Photography to sneakily capture his proposal to Anesa and the joy on their faces? It’s unmatched! A big congratulations to Anesa and Matt, may your journey be as surprising and joyous as the proposal!
Rita tells of how the surprise proposal capture, of a couple she had never met in real life came to be. “Matt and Anesa came all the way from Washington DC. Matt decided that Sydney Opera House would be the perfect setting for his surprise engagement to Anesa. I had never met the couple before so Matt and I became friends on Facebook to see what each other looked like. After we located each other at the steps of the Opera House,(Anesa still had no idea what was happening) I followed them around until Matt found the perfect spot to get down on one knee! It was a truly magical moment to be a part of.”
“I had a ring made and decided to bring it with me on our trip to Australia to propose not knowing exactly when or where I would pop the question. The Opera House was definitely on the short list of potential locations because I knew I wanted to have the proposal photographed, and it’s such a beautiful unique building. As soon as we got into Sydney Nes got tickets to a show there and left me alone in the hotel room to attend a work event. The second she left I got on the phone and called around looking for a photographer to help me surprise her. Rita was fantastic at helping me with the surprise.
We had made friends on Facebook to see what we both looked like. She told me she would be wearing big bright yellow beads, which was very helpful for finding her outside the opera house. As soon as we spotted each other Rita followed us around discreetly until I had found the perfect spot! It must have been very funny for onlookers.”
Matt tells, “Anesa and I met in college. I was a junior, and she was a freshman. For reasons I still don’t understand, she developed a crush on me after seeing me at the gym preparing for basketball season. She approached me a couple of times at parties, and we hit it off pretty quickly.”
“We’re going to get married on New Years Eve this year. Nes is amazing, and has almost everything planned out already.”
