Sarah & Rohen
When Sarah and Rohen decided to tie the knot in a relaxed orchard wedding, they didn’t expect a rainy day. But as is true of most of our incredible couples at Polka Dot Bride- they made the most of it, got muddy and had the best day of the lives. Carla Atley captured their rainy wedding day (and their yacht club engagement which we featured last year).
The wedding had plenty of special handmade touches by the bride and groom. Sarah recalling, “We spent a lot of time designing little things for our wedding. All of our stationery was designed by us. We also made the flower girls head pieces, the brides and bridesmaid hair pins as well. The groom and groomsman’s boutonnieres.”
Sarah chose a lace wedding gown by Maggie Sottero with shoes by Badgley Mishka.
Core Cider House, High Vale Orchard, Pickering Brook was chosen as the couple’s ceremony venue. Sarah explaining, “Core Cider House is located at High Vale Orchard in Pickering Brook, WA. We were married by John Dobson out among the blossoms surrounded by family and friends.”
Rain poured down right up until the very last minute, Sarah remembering, “The weather was not what most couples want for their wedding, it rained most of the day. Right up until the moment music played for me to walk down the aisle it was raining with guests huddled under umbrellas. As soon as that music started the rain stopped and stayed away for the whole ceremony.”
Sarah’s son walked his mother down the aisle to ‘Marry Me’ by Train.. The bride’s little boy had the important job of giving her away at the ceremony. He proudly walked his mum down the aisle and when asked by the celebrant “Who has the honour of giving Sarah away today” he exclaimed “I DO”!
The celebrant exclaimed, “If anyone here has a reason why these two should not be married kindly shut your mouths and keep it to yourselves!”
Of their photographer, Sarah remarks, “Carla is an amazing photographer and just a lovely person. A few months ago she captured stunning images during our engagement shoot and after that we could not have trusted anyone else to document our special day. Carla’s style is perfect for telling stories and that’s what we love about our wedding images. The whole story of Us is there.”
Instead of one cake, the table at the reception was heaving with the couple’s favourites! Sarah tells, “We couldn’t choose just one cake for our reception and instead chose to ask one of our favourite cafes if they could help us out. We ended up with seven different cakes including Rohen’s favourite “Lumberjack Cake” from Mrs S Cafe. We’re looking forward to indulging in a slice on our anniversary!”
Sarah and Rohen chose a cocktail style reception at Fairbrossen Estate, Carme. Sarah tells “It was really important to us to have the opportunity to chat with all of our guests so we chose a Cocktail Style Reception. Our guests were welcomed into a room lit by fairly lights with large couches and bar tables. We spent the evening chatting and laughing with all of our family and friends rather than anyone feeling confined to a seat.”
The couple chose a romantic number for their first dance, Sarah remembering “We danced to ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love’. We didn’t have an elaborate dance routine, instead choosing to just soak up the moment.”
There was plenty of fun to be had – the couple making sure they catered for their littlest guests (and the big kids!) “With my little boy, our nephew and four nieces all in the bridal party as well as plenty of guests young at heart attending the reception it was important to us to cater to their needs. We made sure there was a photo booth with instant film, party bags and threw in a visit from the Icecream Man later in the evening!”
Thanks so much for sharing your wedding day with us Sarah and Rohen! Congratulations on your marriage! Thank you also to Carla Atley for sharing today’s wedding with us.
Sarah used to be my manager! beautiful wedding! love the ice cream truck 🙂
Love a celebrant with a great sense of humour! That icecream truck would have been the perfect end to a wonderful day 🙂
Love what they did with the cake table! Mis-matched cakes are the new cupcake, and so much prettier and better IMHO.
Amazing job on the billy ball boutineers!
