Jacky and Jake
With the heat of Summer finally here, I can think of no better way to spend a warm evening than an outdoor wedding – Jacky and Jake ate, danced and celebrated with their guests as the sun set in Busselton. A beautifully elegant day, composed with graceful details captured by Saffron Photography.
Jacky tells their story. “We met on the school bus when we were 14. Although Jake became friends with my older brother who told him I was off limits so it wasn’t until we were 21 that we started dating. We wrote our versions of how we met on the back of the Church programs/fans we provided for our guests and got a lot of comments on how nice and personal it was ”
The bridesmaids had gowns made in shades of lavender, lilac and eggplant by Anything Sews (08) 9307 9583.
Jacky chose an elegant gown by Galleria Couture. Flower Poetry created the floral arrangements for the day.
Jacky and Jake hired White Events to coordinate and plan the day, explaining, “Lara White our event coordinator. She held my hand the whole way giving me guidance in the right direction. Having Lara help me plan our big day was more important to me than having the perfect dress. Our suppliers made our wedding very special to us. Lara recommended suppliers that she had used before and not only were they all incredibly professional they were also fun, relaxed and totally on board with the style of day/ evening we wanted.”
The ceremony was held at St Joseph’s Church, Busselton, Jackie remarking, “We had our ceremony at St Joseph’s Parish in Busselton. It was a lovely little church and we were married by Deacon Barry Cruickshank who made the whole experience so much more enjoyable with his laid back, warm and friendly approach.”
Jacky walked down the aisle to to “Build a Home” by The Cinematic Orchestra.
Jacky loved, “Having a separate car to take my Dad and I to the Church in and for Jake and I to depart in. At first I wanted to be with the rest of the bridal party but I’m glad I changed my mind. There was something really special about just Dad and I going together before walking down the aisle, and then leaving with Jake that was amazing too. Believe it or not you don’t spend much time with your partner on your big day so that time together in the car afterwards was lovely. I wish we could have recorded our conversations. We would have sounded like school kids. “Oh my goodness…Did we just get married!!!!”
Of their photographer, Jackie tells, “We had a great photographer recommended to us by Lara White, our event co-ordinator. We wanted a photographer to capture the moments without us knowing they were there and that’s exactly what Carly from Saffron Photography did. She was relaxed, fun, easy going and very professional to deal with at all times.”
The couple chose Aqua Resort, Busselton for their reception, also using it as accommodation! “Our reception was at Aqua Resort Busselton. We wanted all the family and friends to spend some time together before and after the big day and it was a great place for it. The gardens where our reception was held were kept immaculate and it was such a beautiful setting. We started our reception an hour earlier for our parents, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, bridal party and their partners. It was a great way to spend some quality time with the ones closest to us and we got some really great photos. ”
The Goose catered the wedding, with wines by Cape Cellars. Jacky remembering, “Our catering was done by “The Goose”. The food and service was spectacular. I had so many people comment on how good the food was and how lovely the wait staff were and that they were really enjoying the evening as much as the guests were!”
“A photo booth was set-up and we gave our guests a selection of random words that they could use to make up funny sentences in the photos. We had “team bride” and “team groom” pins and asked everyone to grab a badge to show which side they were on. We had a selection of bright coloured thongs beside the dance floor for the girls to wear if they wanted to kick their heels off. ”
“We set up a table (well Lara our planner did) of old wedding portraits of our family and friends. We just bought a heap of old photo frames and photo copied wedding photo’s. It was really popular and a good giggle with some of the fashion and hair choices. I did up little baskets for each of the powder rooms with things like perfume, aftershave, hair ties, mints, hand cream, Panadol and Berocca. They were very popular and I kept getting comments on them all night.”
The couple did away with traditions, instead making an announcement, Jacky remembers. “At the beginning of the night Jake and I walked up onto one of the balconies and said our thank you’s and then announced that we are not having the traditional reception and that there would be no speeches, bridal waltz or cutting of the cake. We wanted to enjoy the night and party with our guests without any interruptions.”
