I love the idea of engagement photos being taken while you do what you always do, your usual routine, the way you love to spend your time together.
Morgan Roberts Weddings captured Amy and David this way – the couple taking a flask of hot tea and snacks to the park and enjoying each others company.
Amy kicks off the shoot with the story of how they came to be. “We met through mutual friends, at a housewarming party. We both knew all the couples there and by the end of the night, we were the only two single people still at the party. We said goodbye that night but were in touch again the next day, and dating soon after!”
“We’re different people, with different skills, strengths and weaknesses, and different professions, but we complement each other and make a great team. We love that we can understand and learn from each other and agree on most things, yet think so differently to one another.”
“We actually started going out without telling our friends (who mostly know each other) and for a while, they were acting kind of strangely, like making odd suggestions that we go and see each other. We later learnt, when we told them we were together, that our friends had been trying to set us up! Needless to say, we’re glad we beat them to it.”
Of their photographer, Amy says, “We like Morgan’s style because he is informal, relaxed and captures the moment. We like the relaxed approach and the natural look of the shoot, as it suits our personalities. We just went and did one of our favourite activities…hot cups of tea and snacks in the park, and the shoot captured that well.”
Of the proposal, they tell, “Not long after our 3 year anniversary, David secretly took a day off work to propose to Amy. He spent the day covering a gazebo in a park close to home with Christmas lights and rigging up a remote control to leave by his front door. Thinking they were going out to dinner, Amy arrived just after dark to find the remote, instructions and a line of candles to follow into the park. She followed the trail and pressed the button and the gazebo lit up. David was ready with background music, dinner, a ring and a question, and the answer was yes! The next day was another surprise…an overnight trip to Sydney to see Regina Spektor, one of our favourite artists, perform at the Enmore Theatre.”
