“Going Green” is a hot topic and with a wave of hippies, hipsters, and those that simply care for our environment emerging, we are seeing the eco-friendly touch on the wedding scene. This is certainly assisted by the popularity of vintage-inspired weddings and love for all things thrift-shop, which I’m sure will continue to play a part in many weddings in the years to come.
Eco Brides Magazine is dedicated to eco-friendly and sustainable weddings, and they hosted their inaugural Eco Wedding Fair recently at The Old Museum, Bowen Hills in Brisbane, Queensland. 230 guests attended to see some of the “most innovative eco chic suppliers that the country has to offer”. Lea Moate, Editor of Eco Brides Magazine, said “We had a really gorgeous day on Sunday with lots of happy vendors and brides and grooms all interested in making a difference and going green on their wedding day.”
Bride-to-be Kimberley went along with her fiance and gave us this insight, “I was really surprised by the relaxed atmosphere! I think I was half expecting screaming bridezillas and pushy vendors, but everyone was very calm and friendly. It might have had something to do with the outside chill out zone that had refreshing organic juices from The Smoothie Cycle who used bicycle power to power their blenders, and sun lounges set up under beach umbrella’s that kept everyone relaxed!”
“We found some really great vendors and have now settled on our invitations, photographer, caterer, acoustic duo and decorator – although I did win a $550 ceremony styling package so that swayed us a little for the decorator!
“Woodland Press have such unique invitation designs, printing onto timber veneer and at surprising great value too. I was also really impressed with the warmth to Kath Scott‘s photography, and she’s very local to where we are holding our wedding too which is a bonus for all the local knowledge she has!
“We had never really thought about having any live entertainment but after hearing Jess and Ryan from J&R Music playing their acoustic tunes we were sold. They even learn any special request songs you may want them to play.”
“Overall we had a really enjoyable time (even hubby-to-be said he had fun!) and crossed off some of the bigger items on the to-do list. We have now gone from feeling so overwhelmed with everything that needs to be arranged, to excited and looking forward to finalising the rest of our plans.”
I personally think that these “green” ideas are fabulous, and not only add a unique touch to your big day, but are helping the environment along the way. Keep in mind these three key areas:
- Reuse and recycle.
- Source products and vendors locally.
- Go organic.

I wish we could have attended this fair. Sounds brilliant as Paperless Wedding is all about going GREEN and saving trees and reducing the carbon footprint of your weddings.
