Rochelle & Gordon

With warmer weather upon us, this rustic outdoor wedding captured beautifully by Photography by Emma Pointon seems the perfect way to kick back on a balmy eve and celebrate. Rochelle works in the wedding industry (Rochelle runs Sweet Tables by Chelle) so the wedding was a mass of beautifully thought out details and of course- plenty of cakes and sweets!

Rochelle tells their story. “Gordon and I met at an old workplace of ours. He was making cakes in the factory kitchen and I was the receptionist. Gordon was supposed to start a job elsewhere but lacked motivation after a big boys’ trip, and me starting a job asap was a condition set out by my dad (16 and living at home)…..we both ended up at the Cake Factory. That was 9 years ago.”

The wedding setup was done by the couple. “Everything needed to be bought onsite, down to the generator and lights. We were there the day before setting up and I was back there at 6am the morning of the wedding meeting deliveries and having fun putting the final touches on everything. I styled and planned the whole day. We were back there 9am the next morning packing up.”

Rochelle and her bridesmaid wore gowns from Tuscany Bridal.

Rochelle recalls, “The wedding was held in early April on a beautiful sunny day, after lots of threatening weather reports of rain, at the Cockman Heritage House on Ocean Reef Road, Perth. The house was built in the 1860’s and is a quiet property just made to hold a small rustic wedding and is hired through the Wanneroo Shire.”

“Gordon and I knew exactly the type of wedding we wanted and how we wanted the day to happen. We have three small children and choosing a venue that they would love was very important to us. We wanted a venue that we could have both our ceremony and reception, that was outdoors and large enough for our children to run around and enjoy.

My bridal party got ready out the back of the property, having our hair and make up done on the verandah and then got dressed inside the heritage house. We held the ceremony at the front of the property, in front of the old house surrounded by a lovely raggedy fence. Also at the front of the property, there was a large grassed area where we had pony rides for the children, and canapes for our guests. Our reception was held around the back, amongst the trees and under the stars. We bought in a marquee for our dance floor.”

For the walk down the aisle, Rochelle remembers, “My children and bridal party walked down to ‘Hey Ho’ by the Lumineers and I walked down to ‘You and Me’ by Lifehouse.”

Rochelle carried a fabric and button bouquet by Lillybuds Bespoke Button Bouquets and Brooch Bouquets. She remembers, “The bouquet was made up of trinkets, jewellery collected from our families, including my engagement ring and put together by Lillybuds. It will be passed on to our daughter Sienna when she is older.”

Of their photographer, Rochelle says, “Emma was such an asset to our day. It’s the best feeling knowing that your special day and all the moments that will happen through out, are in such good hands. I knew as soon as I met Emma that she was the photographer for me. She is funny, loves to talk, and just has an awesome energy! It was like having a friend taking our photos and I got so many comments from our guests on what an awesome photographer she was. Gordon is quite shy when it comes to photos so I loved the fact that Emma’s style is more candid shots rather than posed, so we just had to be ourselves, relax and chat…and didn’t feel out of our comfort zone once. On the day Emma had her assistant photographer Jasmin second shooting for her, and Jas was equally as awesome and captured the most beautiful moments, especially of my children.”

Twigged Flowers by Tali created the colourful floral arrangements for the day.  The couple hired vintage crockery from Novel Tea Vintage and furniture from Her Handpicked Harvest.

“We collected wooden dressers, couches, highchairs, and cabinets for months before the wedding. Gordon made the wooden boxes that the flower arrangements were in and I made soaps and fabric notebooks for the ladies’ take home gifts. My mother in law made home made chilli sauce and my mum made macarons as the mens’ gifts.”

“My mum made the hessian and lace aisle runner, hessian cushions for the activity table, and the bags for the soaps. The table used for the dessert table was made out of tree trunks and a piece of wood Gordon collected off the side of the road.”

Rochelle (Sweet Tables by Chelle) designed and created the sweets table and her mum made the wedding cake.

Of their first dance, Rochelle remembers, “Our first dance was the first moment of the day that I really stopped and took it all in. It was lovely. My children were dancing around us in a circle as we danced to Gordy’s favourite song’ Thank you for Loving Me’ by Bon Jovi.”
