Nicole and Hayden
Nicole and Hayden’s Brisbane art gallery wedding is gorgeous- from the urban backdrops to the bride’s short, beautiful gold dress. Every element suits their modern, stylish personalities!
Nicole tells, “We met in 2000, while having drinks with a mutual friend. It seems so long ago and funny to think that we were dancing with our future husband/wife that night.”
Photos today are by Callie Marshall – Florido Weddings who captured the urban, modern feeling of today’s celebration with style.
Jo Twidale styled the girls hair and makeup, Nicole telling, “Twidale Hair and Makeup Artists, led by Jo Twidale, their work is flawless and they made me and my bridesmaids look amazing”.
Nicole notes, “I am incredibly lucky to have some very talented friends. Irena Jusufovic made my dream wedding dress and Kelly Durnell actually created an NH logo (or HN depending on which way the card was facing) which adorned our place cards and designed a CD sleeve wedding invitation. For our favors, Hayden and I chose a series of songs we love and had a mix CD made to then give guests.”
For the processional, Nicole recalls, “I walked down the aisle to ‘Some Kind of Wonderful’ by The Drifters.”
Bleeding Heart Gallery set the scene, Nicole telling, “We had our ceremony and reception at Bleeding Heart, utilising the space that makes up the gallery, the cafe and the wide verandahs surrounding the old heritage listed ‘School of the Arts’ building located in Brisbane City. The venue organised the catering and the staff were excellent.”
“Ketrina Coffey was our celebrant and she was wonderful in the lead up to the wedding. She helped us create a ceremony that was ‘us’ and really set the tone for our special day.”
Of their photographer, Nicole says, “We met Callie Marshall from Florido Weddings through a friend and I knew I immediately wanted her there on the day. She is an absolute professional but knows how to keep a relaxed vibe throughout the shoot. We asked for an urban city feel for our photos and somehow Callie found these unexpected great locations which provided the perfect backdrop for our wedding photo’s. The results were unique and candid photos that reflected the fun and excitement we felt on our wedding day.”
“I have always wanted to have a ‘flash mob’ at my wedding and was sure that it wouldn’t happen as all of my friends had been really busy. I was looking for my good girlfriends to have a dance when a song came on that I love and they rushed out to surprise me. They had changed into their hammer pants and danced around to a medley of songs including New Order and Tone Loc. Our reactions in the photos pretty much tell the whole story of how thrilled I was at this.”
The couple added a few art inspired pieces of decor, Nicole telling, “The gallery walls were blank so to try and keep with the art theme, we had three large gold frames hung (hired from The Prop House and hung by my brother-in-laws) so that guests could stand behind and be the art. They then created the perfect posing place to get photos of all of our guests.”
Of their first dance, Nicole remembers “Our ‘first dance’ actually didn’t happen until near the end of the reception as a fire alarm accidentally went off in the building. Not wanting to have our dance with that noise blaring in the background we got the DJ to crank some funk music and get everyone on the floor and having fun. After a quick visit from the fire brigade that was sorted and then we had our first dance to ‘I only have eyes for you’ by The Flamingos.”
Congratulations on your marriage Nicole and Hayden! Thank you for sharing your day with us! Thank you also to Callie Marshall – Florido Weddings for sharing today’s wedding with us!
very cool wedding 🙂 x
Really loved the use of the heart balloons as props, especially since they matched the bridesmaids’ dresses. Also great use of the urban environment.
The heart-shaped balloons are cute. Does anyone know if these balloons can be ordered with personalised prints? Thanks in advance.
Wow! Looks like a fun party! Love the rooftop shots!
