Ann & Aaron
Ann and Aaron’s Toowoomba wedding is so beautifully romantic. Inspired by everything they love, it’s full of vintage touches, plenty of colour and the most gorgeous light surrounding their love story.
Ann tells, “We met in a first year law tutorial at QUT in 2006. We ended up doing an assignment together in semester two of the same year. 5 years later we were engaged!”
Photos today are by Jarred Tyers who has captured the light and romance of today’s wedding so beautifully.
The day started with the stationery. Ann remembers, “We made all of our stationery. Our invitations were designed as a playbook entitled “Tying the Knot..a tale of nuptials” which “starred” Aaron and myself in our “debut performance as husband and wife”. Each page of the invite (invite, directions, wishing well information) appeared as a scene in the play.”
Ann had to mention, “My wonderful hairdresser Kursty Broad. Kursty has been my hairdresser for years but right before my wedding she went on maternity leave and is no longer associated with a salon (so this is a personal shout out rather than a reference to a vendor). Even with a new born she committed to as many trials as I needed and drove all the way to Toowoomba for the day – she made us all look amazing and was so calm and care free on the day. She’s super woman!”
The bridesmaid’s wore 50’s inspired gowns, Ann recalls, “A contact (Pat 07 3715 5450) who altered my maid of honour’s wedding dress made them. I had designed 50’s inspired dresses with loads of colour and wanted each girl’s skirt to be a different colour. With the help of the girls we drew up the designs and chose the colours and Pat brought them to life ( Pat works from home in Sumner Park just outside of Brisbane).”
St Patricks Cathedral, Toowoomba was chosen for the ceremony, Ann remarking “As we wanted a Catholic ceremony St Patrick’s Cathedral in the centre of Toowoomba was a natural choice for the ceremony.”
Of their photographer, “Jarred previously worked with one of my bridesmaids (Leisa) in a Sydney based photography studio. Leisa had so much faith in Jarred’s work that we couldn’t not choose him. Jarred flew up to do an engagement shoot in February and we immediately knew that his love of candid moments teamed with his natural ability to direct you when needed without stifling the moment meant that we’d found the perfect person to capture our day.”
Ann says “Aaron and I genuinely worked together on everything. When the day finally arrived it was the product of our combined efforts which was so satisfying to see come into fruition.”
Ann and Aaron chose Gabbinbar Homestead for the wedding reception. Ann remarks “Aaron and I have no connections to Toowoomba but as soon as we laid eyes on Gabbinbar’s website we fell in love. As we drove up the pebble driveway to the homestead for our meeting with the venue\’s manager we knew there was no turning back. The expansive well manicured gardens and vintage splendour of the entire venue was perfect.”
“We really wanted to get people involved so we had a well wishes tree were people could write us messages, a thumb print tree, our gifts to our guests were a lucky dip where people were encouraged to swap if they wanted a different item and everyone was encouraged to play croquet. We also made a photo board that had a photo of every guest at our wedding with Aaron or me – we wanted everyone to know they’d been invited because they played a special part in our lives! We also arranged to have 5 back to back group dance songs (Macarena, Nut bush etc) straight after the bridal waltz to get everyone to throw away their dance floor inhibitions followed by 5 back to back Michael Jackson songs as chosen by Aaron and I.”
“Our food and drink menus were printed onto paper doilies and our name cards were wooden scrabble pieces -my dad made the tile holders and we ordered over 500 letters to make out each of our guests’ names. Then we sat for an entire weekend getting up close and personal with our hot glue gun! We also supplied all of the items for our table centrepieces. We sourced 100 vintage, leather bound classic books from ebay, had everyone in my family collect mismatched teacups we also glued lace which we dyed in our kitchen to tealight candle holders to keep with the vintage theme.”
For their first dance, the song held many memories. Ann tells, “In 2010 whilst on a Gondola in Venice a lovely Italian gentleman sang Volare to us. Being one of our favourite memories that song was an easy choice. We elected to do a self-choreographed foxtrot which we had practised over and over. Five seconds into the actual dance Aaron stood on my dress, forgot every step and we were left to improvise – our guests loved it though!”
Congratulations Ann and Aaron! Thank you for sharing your wedding day with us! Thank you also to Jarred Tyers for sharing today’s images!
Ann & Aaron you have great taste! Looks like you had an amazing day. Bravo to Jarred Tyers on the stunning photos 🙂
Lovely – where are those shoes from?!?
Hey Gemma,
I purchased them at Famous footwear – here’s a link to stockists.

I ripped out the original white ribbon and replaced them with the blue. They are still selling them now. They’re cheapies but they completely reflected what I wanted.

Ann – what a beautiful wedding!! Everything so well thought out. Love your hair clips – where did you get them from?
Thanks Kellie! They are from equip -$12. I looked high and low for some vintage looking clips and was about to purchase some much dearer ones from Etsy when I stumbled on these!
