Today’s venue hunt is all about bringing in awesome food and drink to the venue! South Australians can you help our couple?
Here are their requirements:
– Adelaide Based
– Venue that allows just venue hire and drinks package
– Wants to use own caterer
Here’s what we found:
State Library of South Australia
Imagine celebrating amongst the literary masters! The State Library of South Australia allows functions big or small within the premises. The Mortlock Chamber can seat 200 and the venue is catered exclusively by Epicure.
Adelaide Entertainment Centre is nothing if not grand. With a capacity of 80-1000 guests this venue is not for the faint of heart.
Adelaide Zoo is such a fun spot for a wedding, especially if you’re an animal lover. Dining next to the pandas? Or right in front of the tigers? There are a bevy of spaces to choose from, all beautifully designed and surrounded by the zoo’s menagerie. The venues can seat from 50 to 240 guests with outside catering a must.
National Railway Museum is such an appropriate venue if you’re a fan of planes, trains and automobiles! The main pavilion holds 400 and guests dine right beside the train platforms and beautifully restored trains. You can even hire the dining & lounge cars for pre dinner drinks!
South Australian Museum provides private lawns and private spaces with a difference for a wedding. Dine amongst the incredible exhibits, with plenty of beautiful spaces with fascinating things to learn in between courses! Outside catering? Of course!
If you’re wanting something with a history, Queens Theatre might be your venue! It’s the oldest purpose built theatre on mainland Australia and because it allows outside catering, might check all the boxes!
Tandanya, Adelaide’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait arts centre provides such a unique backdrop for a wedding. With space to hold 500 guests for cocktail functions of 400 for sit down dining in the gallery spaces. Different galleries are available depending on what exhibitions are on show and of course, it allows outside catering!
Woodhouse Activity Centre is located in Picadilly. The venue has accommodation for sixty, a massive magnolia tree (wedding ceremony spot?), an outdoor chapel and grand old house all of which allow external catering.
Stangate House
Located in the Adelaide Hills, Stangate House has the most beautiful country gardens. There’s an onsite kitchen and areas available for marquees and garden ceremonies.
Port Elliot’s Waverley Estate is a gorgeous estate with stunning gardens. With plenty of room for marquees, a pool, tennis court and even a cellar door. Plenty of opportunity for outside catering at this venue.
Depending on how loosely you define “Adelaide” I looked at K1 by Geoff Hardy at Mclaren Vale but was deterred by their need to BYO caterer – might be perfect for this couple. It’s exceptionally pretty!
Golding Wines in the Adelaide Hills allows you to bring your own caterer.
Marquee in Botanic Park
Lovely post! Is there one for Melbourne?
FYI K1 is $125-140 per head for drinks and wait staff. No food. Glen Ewin estate is really pretty. 2 areas for both ceremony and reception each. And they require you to have your own caterer and drinks. Only 25 mins north east of town. Just outside Houghton.
I had my wedding at Beaumont House, we had caterers and bought our own alcohol. It was perfect.
I just called Queens theatre, they no longer do weddings 🙁
Where did you end up having your wedding? I’m on the same hunt!
I don’t think this list is particularly accurate or perhaps it is just out of date. State Library do catering through Epicure and the Adelaide Zoo is through Blanco Catering.
