Ashlee and Sam
There is nothing like a winery wedding. Somehow the story of the vines adds to the romance of the day, plus you’re guaranteed to have a drop drop to serve! Ashlee and Sam’s bright green touches just made the day feel like a fresh, bright celebration and the reminder post it notes and personal Twitter hashtag? This is a wedding I would have liked to get down and boogey at!
Ashlee tells their story. “We’ve actually been together almost 12 years! We met when we were 18, Sam had just moved to Tasmanian for uni. We met at a party in the very first week of classes, got together that night, and have been together ever since. We moved back Adelaide about seven years ago and now have a house with our two beagles, Polly and Chewy.”
Photos today are by Alan of Photobat who has captured such a sense of fun without losing the traditional emotional of the day!
Ashlee chose an elegant gown from Karen Willis Holmes with jewels from her mum.
Ashlee and Sam chose Golding Wines, Lobethal for their ceremony and reception venue. Ashlee says, “Golding was pretty much the only place we looked at for a venue. As soon as we saw it we knew it was perfect. It’s such a sweet, lovely place (and makes some damned good wine!) The owners, Lucy and Darren made sure everything was perfect, even providing some of their secret special bubbly as a gift.”
Ashlee tells one of the stories of the day. “There was a bus from town for most of the guests, which ended up leaving for the ceremony late – the wedding car almost ended up arriving before the guests. We had to detour and wait it out a bit, until we knew they had all arrived.”
Ashlee walked down the aisle to ‘Storybook Love’, ” The theme music from The Princess Bride (my favourite film).”
Ashlee tells of the extra special touches they had to involve family. “During the ceremony, we organised for both sets of parents to give us away. I had two roses secretly added to my bouquet, which we then gave to our mums as a thank you. I wore my mother’s pearls which she wore when she married my father 34 years ago, and had my grandmother’s brooch on my dress.”
Ashlee’s bridesmaids wore emerald green gowns from Alfred Sung while Sam and his groomsmen wore suits from Peter Shearer.
Robyn May created the bouquets and floral arrangements.
Of their photographer, Ashlee says, “The photographer is a longtime friend of ours, Alan from Photobat who just relocated from Tasmania to Melbourne. We couldn’t have imagined using anyone else. He’s just incredible at making everyone completely comfortable, and the candid moments he captures sum up the day perfectly.”
Ashlee says,” I’m not particularly crafty, but I did manage to make the place cards. My aunt made our invitations, which were bright purple and green, to match the wedding colours. ”
Heidelberg Cakes created a four tier wedding cake trimmed in bright purple ribbon while Monique at Cupcake Treats created individual cupcakes for guests to take home as favors.
Twitter played a role at the wedding with Ashlee explaining, “Our MC conspired with one of our friends to set up a hashtag for the day (#bashlee), and they contacted pretty much everyone we knew on twitter, whether they were at the wedding or not, to flood twitter with well wishes, using the hashtag. They then set up a projector at the reception, showing all the tweets as they came through. A friend used the tweets to create a story after the wedding. It was not only amazing to see all these literally hundreds of tweets come through during the day, but we can now go back and read through them again afterwards. It’s like the world’s biggest guest book!”
For their first dance, Ashlee remembers, “We didn’t end up having one! We originally planned to dance to ‘My Baby Just Cares for Me’ by Nina Simone, but the dance floor was already cranking, so we decided to just jump on in and get into it!”
Congratulations on your marriage Ashlee and Sam! Thank you for sharing your wedding with us! Thank you also to Photobat for sharing the photos with us!
