Theunis and Rebecca
Our story starts 10 years ago. Theunis and I had both just embarked on our working holiday visas in The United Kingdom, Theunis from South Africa and me from Australia. On my first job, I met this girl who would talk about her friend and how she thought we would be the perfect couple. Eventually I agreed to the blind date and it really did turn out to be the best decision I ever made. Theunis and I remained in the U.K on sponsored working visas for another 5 years. We then returned to live in Australia. We went on to have two children and 10 years together before he finally popped the question. The day we got married was also the day we had entered Australia 5 years previously to start our lives together .
We got married in Echuca on the Murray River where I had grown up. I wore a Collette Dinnigan dress. Theunis’s outfit was from Spalding. Our two boys were our pageboys and they wore suits from Bardot Junior and Converse shoes. My Bouquet was done by Lisa from Wallingford flowers.
My hair was done by Hannah from Major Look Hair and Beauty and my Make Up by Pure Indulgence Skin and Body.
I love designing and craft with a degree in BA fashion design and a creative business La de dah kids, I knew from the beginning that most of our wedding would be DIY. For our invites we made a little video that we sent to all the guests. We are not professionals but learned the editing programs through you tube. The guests loved it and it really set the scene for a fun and relaxed wedding day. The outer covers of our invites and all the place tags etc were created and printed at home. Then came all the decorative bits.
The ceremony was left quite simple. My brother, dad and mother all pitched in to help make an arch that I had found a picture of. It turned out perfect and I got to see another creative side to my family. We also tied little flower posies to the seats. To add to the already beautiful leafy background. Our wedding was small and we wanted to keep it very intimate. Theunis’s sister, Courtney Guy, sang “A thousand years” by Christina Perri as my 4 year old son and my father walked me down the aisle. Our two boys played a small role in the ceremony and it was really special. It was a traditional ceremony with our family priest marring us both. We signed the register to Cat Power’s sea of love with our two precious boys on our knees.
We had a homemade photo booth with a polaroid camera that everyone had fun using. We also set up a chalk board that they could write a message for us to keep.
Our cake was made by a family friend.
The band, Nullabor, was brilliant and they played our first dance which was Jack Johnson’s Better Together.
Ms Gingham says: Shot to perfection by Tim Coulson! Congratulations to Theuni and Rebecca and many thanks for sharing your beautiful wedding today!
Rebecca says: “My name is Rebecca and I have two small children and run the business La de dah kids.”
