Vicki and Luke
If there is one place in Australia I really must get to – it’s Broome. Some of the most spectacular beaches in Australia, amazing sunsets and camels. What a place to get married, which is exactly what Vicki and Luke did!
Vicki tells their story. “I first met Luke when he moved to Perth from Victoria in 2007. A year went by where we bumped into each other a few times but never did I realise Luke was interested in me or vice versa. Finally at another mutual friend’s house we met up by chance again. I needed to go to the shop and Luke offered to drive me and we had the funniest night together laughing and being silly. We just really clicked. Luke tells me that it was that night he thought, “I’m going to marry that girl”. From that moment on we were practically inseparable and we both knew we had found something very special. Luke went back to Victoria about a week after we met to visit his family and his sister tells me he told her that he had found “The One”. About 6 months after we started seeing each other we had a very special little surprise when I discovered I was pregnant with our daughter. Evie is now almost 2 years old and is the most wonderful thing that has ever happened to us.”
Photographs today are by Angela Higgins who knows how to take the most goldenly lit, fresh and beautiful photographs.
Vicki and Luke were married at Cable Beach Club Resort & Spa.
Vicki wore a gown made by Zanzis Couture. She explains “My dress was a one off that I worked closely with Jennifer Naglan (Zanzis Couture Designer) to design. I wanted the dress to reflect the day, the beautiful cable beach surroundings, myself, and to be effortlessly beautiful.”
Vicki’s bridesmaids wore grey gowns from Story by Tang. Broome Florist created the bouquets.
The ceremony was held in the Lily Pond Gardens at the Cable Beach Club Resort in Broome. Vicki recalls, ” It was the most beautiful secluded tropical garden with an amazing grassed area and an absolutely relaxed feel to it. The ceremony was completely styled by myself & my maid of honour, Sam. White rose petals lined the aisle and I sourced some beautiful items/decor on Etsy to personalise the area such as rustic personalised wedding signs for the Bride & Grooms parents and Nanna, white vintage lace cones on the guests seats filled with rose petals, burlap cones filled with flowers on the sides of the chairs on the aisles, hanging bottles in the trees filled with flowers, blackboard sign with “welcome to Luke and Vicki’s wedding” bottles with “LOVE” printed on & order of service booklets that were rolled and tied with twine.”
Vicki remembers, “I walked down the aisle to “follow the sun” by Xavier Rudd – one of Luke’s and mine favourite songs at the time. I asked Luke to pick the aisle song which was a beautiful touch.”
“The ceremony was meaningful, short and sweet with lots of fun & laughter through out – just the way we wanted it. While the register was being signed there was Corona and Chandon served to the guests and a toast was made to us just before the celebrant pronounced us Mr & Mrs Jones.”
Vicki notes “Being both from the country, Luke and I wanted to create a feel/theme to our wedding which reflected the relaxed and easy going people that we are. We really wanted our guests to feel as though they were on “Broome Time” at our wedding.”
The sunset was a focal point of the day. Vicki remembers, “We had a cocktail style wedding with a marquee set up on the amphitheatre lawn overlooking Cable Beach. I brought the reception forward to start at 5pm just in time for the guests to be able to view the most beautiful sunset of Cable Beach. There is truly nothing like it – spectacular. ”
“My maid of honour and I styled the wedding ourselves and all items were either sourced from from Etsy and/or DIY. I used a lot of collective jars, hand written blackboards & burlap/hessian to create a rustic type feel with lots of soft whites, creams, soft pastels to give it a touch of elegance/romance. My maid of honour and myself brought up the vases/jars that we had collected over time for the centrepieces which we filled with flowers and placed on hessian for the centrepieces with handmade lace jar candles.”
“I had a DIY photo board which we lugged up that was covered in hessian and tied with twine hanging from all directions with little pegs so that the guests could take photos on the polaroid camera and peg there photo to the board. It was a beautiful touch.”
The female guests received favors from Hidden Valley Handcrafts. Vicki recalls “I ordered personalised stubby holders for the boys as it is very warm in Broome and the reception was an outside event so I thought they would be perfect to keep their beer cold. I wanted the ladies to take away something that would remind them of the beautiful Cable Beach sunset so I ordered handmade soaps from Broome which were called “the Cable Beach sunset soap”. They were coloured in beautiful sunset tones and smelt amazing.”
The candy buffet was a labor of love for Vicki, who explains, “I wanted to keep the dessert table themed to the wedding colour scheme so we went with soft pastel/creams/white colours with all the lollies and desserts. We had mini vanilla cupcakes with cream cheese icing, strawberry tarts, lemon meringues, macaroons, brownies, white choc macadamia rumballs and many different lolly varieties. I sourced a burlap banner for the dessert buffet which read “just married”. I also had brown paper bags stamped with “midnight snack” and folded over with a peg for guests to take some sweet treats home with them after the reception. Papyrus Design designed the bags and stamp for me.”
“My maid of honour and her lovely family put together the dessert buffet and completely styled the reception with centrepieces, guest table, bonbonniere table, photoboard only hours before. I felt completely honoured & lucky that they made my vision come to life and more!”
Of their first dance, photographer Angela says “Vicki and Luke’s first dance was a crazy sight. Instead of a slow dance they decided to put on one of their favourite dance tracks and invited all their guests onto the dance floor. As you can see from the photographs, it was a pretty memorable moment and I couldn’t stop smiling as I watched them all dance their hearts out.”
Thank you Vicki and Luke for sharing your beautiful day with us! Thank you also to Angela Higgins for sharing today’s images with us!

I LOVE your bridesmaids dresses and am looking for mine to wear something very similar. I have googled and can’t find them anywhere. Where in Perth or Sydney do Story By Tang stock these?

Hi
Is 11th October the day Vicki and Luke got married?
I am planning a Broome wedding, and looking at what months are best for a wedding.
Thanks
Kate
Hi Kate,
From the information I have, the wedding took place in June! Hope that helps

If your preferred fruit isn’t in season, use a package of frozen fruit with its
syrup. But rather than scold them into eating their fruits and vegetables, I find that being
creative works much nicer. Smoothies are made
of fresh fruit and veggies which are full of diverse vitamin and minerals.
Hi there Chrystal beautiful photos looks like you all had a great day . Can you please tell me if your catering company was broome based ? Also was the food good ? We are looking to renew our wedding vowels in September this year and looking for a catering company would you recommend them ?
Kind Regards Sue
Hi Sue,
I’m not sure Vicki and Luke will see this so wanted to make sure you got a response. The catering company is indeed Broome Based (they have a phone number at the end of the post)
