Kirrily & Liam
I love the idea of a zoo wedding, I think it’s romantic to be honest- especially Taronga Zoo with it’s incredible views. Mixing with the giraffes and elephants after saying your vows? That’s exactly what today’s newlyweds Kirrily and Liam did to celebrate their marriage!
Kirrily tells their story. “Liam and I met back in 2001 when we were both scared little year 7 students starting a new stage in life. Although I don’t remember the first time I laid eyes on him, I do remember turning to my friend Ashleigh (one of my bridemaids) one lunchtime in year 9 and saying “I think I like Liam!” Nothing further happened in that arena during high school, and it wasn’t until we both headed down to Gerringong with a group of mutual friends during Uni holidays for a few hilarious days that we really started to take notice of each other. At that time I was with somebody else and Liam was planning a big trip overseas, so nothing happened. A few months later, we began to see each other again at all of our friend’s 21st parties, and then finally one night whilst sitting on the beach, we decided to give ‘us’ a shot.
Two amazing years later, whilst holidaying at Pretty Beach on the Central Coast, Liam took me down to a nearby wharf on the pretense of “going fishing”. To my absolute surprise, when we got down to the wharf, it was beautifully set up with flowers, champagne, strawberries and chocolate. Liam got down on one knee and asked me to marry him, holding out a gorgeous diamond ring. When I said yes, there was a big cheer – unbeknown to us, there was a crowd of people watching from the balconies of the nearby beach houses!”
Tomar Photography captured today’s sophisticated, but fun wedding photographs.
Frances Dunn styled the floral arrangements.
Kirrily wore a gown by Martina Liana. The bridesmaids wore nude pink gowns made by Sue Liaw.
Kirrily and Liam were married at Kirrily’s childhood church -St George’s Anglican Church, Engadine. Kirrily chose an acoustic version of “Not Just for the Weekend” by Damien Leith for the processional.
Kirrily and Liam held their reception at Taronga Centre . Kirrily explains “After holding the ceremony in the church I’d grown up in, we headed over to Taronga Zoo, getting photos in the zoo grounds before heading down to a spectacular sunset at Bradley’s Head Point, which pushed through the grey clouds and produced an impressive backdrop overlooking Sydney city. Our reception was held at The Taronga Centre, which also boasted an uninterrupted view of the city skyline.”
Of their photographers, Kirrily says “Marc and Tony from Tomar Photogrpahy made the day a breeze. They were always there to capture the moment, but at the same time they were never in our face. We felt that they captured the day beautifully, and we are extremely happy with their photographs, not to mention the stunning album that they promptly put together for us, telling the story of our special day from start to finish. We would highly recommend them to anyone.”
Guests traveled from near and far to celebrate the newlyweds- including the three groomsmen! Kirrily remarks, “Family is really important to us, and every immediate family member played an important part in our wedding. Three of Liam’s groomsmen flew over from England to be with us for our wedding. Having them there made the day extra special, and we are so grateful for them for making the huge effort to come.”
There were plenty of sweet treats for guests starting with cakes and macarons from Baked Patisserie. Kirrily remembers “Their cakes may look a treat, but just wait until you taste them, and then you’ll understand just how amazing they are.”
Kirrily loved “The candy bar – for months my mum and I collected various glass jars and little ornaments to use. We bought old wine crates and whitewashed them to give different heights on the table, and we searched high and low for different sweets that fitted the ‘look’ of the candy bar.”
The first dance was to a favourite. Kirrily recalls “We’ve both pretty much got two left feet, so our first dance (to Jason Mraz’s “I Won’t Give Up”) was really just a sophisticated sway, but it really felt so natural on the day that we didn’t even care about our lack of dancing skills! Our band, Venus, created a extraordinary atmosphere and had everyone up and dancing.”
Kirrily remarks “Our wedding day is exactly how we’d imagined it to be – fun, relaxed and full to the brim of people we love.”
Congratulations Kirrily and Liam! Thank you for sharing your wedding with us! Thank you to Tomar Photography for sharing today’s wedding!
