Louise and Chris
Urban splendour was the style of Louise and Chris’ big day. From Louise’s art deco style wedding gown, to their inner city location it all came together to form a beautiful spring (if not a little rainy, thanks Mother Nature!) wedding.
Louise and Chris met in a very retro way! Louise explains “We met through Myspace! Back when people still used Myspace… completely by accident really – same music interests so chatted for about 1 year before actually meeting up (conversation progressed to Facebook along the way). The rest is history.”
Photography today is by Tigs Macallan who has captured the fun and beauty of today’s wedding in an elegant, classic style.
Louise worked with designer Jane Hill to create a wedding gown inspired by the 1930’s and photographs of Bette Davis.
Louise and Chris chose the Abbotsford Convent for their wedding. Louise explains “We were married at Abbotsford Convent – our favourite piece of inner city ‘country’. Our original plan and theme was around the ceremony being held under the big oak tree. However, Melbourne’s torrential rain on the day saw our ceremony moved to the lovely courtyard by the beautiful Rosina Room where we partied the night away with friends and family. Having everything on the same site made it all so much more relaxed. After the ceremony in the courtyard, we disappeared around the grounds for an hour to do photography and then rejoined everybody in the hall where they were seated for dinner.”
Louise says “Having my uncles create an umbrella walkway for me to get from the car to the courtyard to marry my man – magical”
Louise walked down the aisle to “All You Need Is Love” by The Beatles performed by Trio Acoustic Musicians. Louise recalls “I loved the cheering and clapping when I walked into the courtyard – with all the rain on the day I think it brought everyone even closer together – literally!”
The floral arrangements for the day were styled by Mr Lincoln. Louise remarks ” We had incredible floral work by Mr Lincoln who used lots of moss, birch, garden roses, amber bottles and jars to complete the look. ”
Of their ceremony, Louise says “Our incredible personalized ceremony written by our fantastic celebrant Lise Rodgers – she really made our day with an honest, funny and heartfelt ceremony that everyone enjoyed.”
Louise and Chris own their own stationery business Paper Lab, so it makes sense that the paper goods of the wedding were a priority. Louise explains ” Yes! We wanted our wedding to really reflect ‘us’ so we personally created our invites, online R.S.V.P, ceremony fan, placecards, ‘happy tears’ tissue packets and ‘Mr & Mrs’ bunting for our chairs and cake. We also hand stamped our own ‘thank you’ cards that were sent out when we got back from our honeymoon. ”
Of their photographer, Louise says “Tigs Macallan and her fantastic team were so incredibly amazing. They captured the essence of our day and told our story beautifully. They were creative and attentive and were always there at the right time without being intrusive. Their enthusiasm and support really helped us in getting through the day.”
The reception was set with three long tables, says Louise ” We wanted our wedding to have an earthy, organic, easygoing and joyous feel. We decided to have 3 long tables instead of the traditional multiple round tables as we wanted to be amongst it all instead of separated on the ‘bridal table’ ”
The reception was filled with celebration. Louise recalls, “We were announced into the room and hit by a wall of sound from the cheering of our family and friends. We cut the cake (our fabulous cheese tower!) and then went straight into the dance (getting as many formalities out of the way as possible!). We danced to one of our favourite songs – ‘At Last’ by Etta James. As soon as it started everyone in the room clapped and cheered – really was a special moment.”
Congratulations Louise and Chris! Thank you for sharing your wedding day with us! Thank you also to Tigs Macallan for sharing today’s photographs!
