Outdoor wedding receptions are proving to be very popular, I recently had the opportunity to photograph an outdoor wedding reception shoot that featured a rural setting and that also showcased rustic styled furniture. The inspiration behind the shoot was the beautiful backdrop of Maleny (Queensland) itself and you could be mistaken for thinking that you’re indulging in the beautiful sights of Europe! Maleny offers a lifestyle that is unparalleled to most places; moderate climate, sweeping views and friendly people. It’s only natural that a wedding held here would be reminiscent of the quaint gardens and country charm of yesteryear. Carly from CL Weddings & Events and Terrianne from Mondo Floral Designs in Maleny have brought a modern, sophisticated country charm to this shoot.
The focus was an elegantly detailed dinner table. Culinary delights such as antipasto platters, crusty home-made baguettes, gorgeous cheeses and fine wine featured and it made me think a little bit of Tuscany was happening right here at home.
Mondo Floral Designs created soft relaxed florals in eclectic jars, which featured antique roses, tulips, kale and flowering fill. The relaxed designs also introduced a punch of lavender into the floral combination. A bride can replicate this look by sourcing old jars, vases and milk bottles from antique stores or garage sales. It is true that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure! You may be lucky enough to find a well loved chandelier or a piece of rustic furniture that you could bring back to life and feature at your reception. Finish the look with a crisp white table cloth, gorgeous pots, woven baskets and well loved books stacked together and tied with twine.
Remember to think outside of the box. You could incorporate herbs in the floral arrangement, have a herb planter or even add Kale to your arrangements like Mondo Floral Designs did. The stylists decided to introduce a punch of muted colour into the mix, and antique lavender and sage green was incorporated to mix it up a little.
The Sunshine Coast region boasts attractive location opportunities for outdoor celebrations and something so simple as a rural property can be transformed into an elegant, yet rustic inspired European affair, if that’s what you so desire!

How gorgeous! I want to hang a chandelier off the tree in my backyard. In fact, this whole wedding could be set up in a backyard. Don’t be afraid to think big and think different, Dotties!
What gorgeous inspiration this is – especially love the setting and the herbs in the tiered dishes. Such possibilities…..
