Happy Monday dotties! What did you get up to on the weekend? Did you get engaged on Valentine’s Day? I, being the wedding blogger that I am, forgot to buy a card for Mr Polka and ran to get one on the day. It said “You Are Flippin Gorgeous!” so I loved it and bought it (and then the cashier who served me had just picked up a dead rat before she touched the card, I told Mr Polka this was proof of love seeing as it now had dead rat on it).
Remember how I mentioned on Friday that Brands Exclusive are holding a special wedding boutique sale starting tomorrow? Well they’ve offered one lucky Polka Dot Bride reader a $100 voucher! Just leave a comment on this entry telling me the favourite thing you’ve planned for your wedding and why the most creative answer will win! We’ll close the competition at 5pm AEST today. This prize is not redeemable for cash. Entrants must be aged 18 or older. This competition is a game of skill; no chance enters into deciding the winner. No late entries will be considered
So let’s start our week of with a fantastical, talented vendor, a spotlight on a member of Ms Polka Dot’s Directory
Check out our amazing wedding photographers, wedding cinematographers, wedding planners, wedding celebrants, wedding venues and oh so much more all ready to take your wedding plans and help you turn your wedding day into the wedding day it should be- awesome.
One thing that your reception needs? If you’re turning it into a massive party? Awesome music. Luckily we have such awesome entertainers advertising with Polka Dot Bride right? Move On Up is one such awesome entertainer. They’re a funk, jazz and groove band that play all over NSW (well near Sydney! but they can travel anywhere, including internationally!).
There’s a core group of five musicians but they can add and subtract to suit your particular function. With a love of Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye, D.I.G, Brand New Heavies and oh so many more the band take requests and will tailor the music for your crowd and event. So if you want people dancing all night? They can do that. if you want them to sway and enjoy their meal while humming? They can do that too. Talented bunch that they are!
To get to know the band a little more, we asked Nathan from Move On Up five questions in five minutes.
What is your favourite after five drink?
Martini
Your favourite weekend getaway?
I love to get away to Byron Bay for the weekend, rent a cottage down at Tallows, enjoy the sun, waves and then some great food in town.
Favourite restaurant?
My Fave is the Chelsea Tea House in Avalon. Intimate, cosy and with great food.
What can we find you eating for breakfast on a Sunday morning?
Ideally a smoked salmon brioche with truffle oil, cottage cheese, rocket and fresh juice.
Your favourite wedding story?
I’ve had the privilege of playing at many weddings over the years so thinking of only one story is difficult, but a recent memory is from a wedding at Balmoral Beach. It was a traditional Jewish ceremony and reception, but just happened to be held on the hottest Sydney summer day of the year! The groomsmen thought they would fix the problem by carrying out the groom and the bride and throwing them in the Balmoral Ocean Pool!

My favourite thing thing i have planned for the wedding is planning it with my mum! She is a very enthusiastic Mother of the Bride to Be: talking to potential suppliers at Expo’s, taking me dress shopping weekly and even aiming to lose 2kg to look her best on my day – bless her:)
Our ‘first look’. Moving away from tradition, I hope our first look photo session will bring a more intimate feel to our special day. And an added bonus- we’ll have more time to spend with our loved ones during our wedding festivities 🙂
My favourite thing that we’ve planned for our wedding is one special photo op that I feel brings together our two different personalities perfectly. I plan to hang a candle chandelier from a tree at our outdoor rainforest venue and get photos dancing underneath. I think it brings together my fiance’s love of all things outdoor and my “girlyness” and love of luxury and all things pretty. I hope the end result will be a photo that sums up the whole day in one photo – fusing our two different personalities. Opposites do attract!
It sounds silly but I can’t wait to become a Mrs.! We’ve been together for 12 years and I am so excited it finally be able to refer to my partner as mu husband.
giant balloons were my favourite thing that I planned for our wedding – they made great backdrops, fun photo props and made our photos that much funner ! (got great comments about them too!)
My favourite thing so far is our ‘Cookie Bar’. Instead of the popular ‘Candy Bar/Buffet’ we are having a Cookie Bar, with all our favourites for midnight snacking. My mum’s jam drops, peanut butter Hershy Kiss cookies and other special ones baked by special people.
I have made my four bridesmaids mismatching floral silk robes to wear on the morning of the wedding. They have been more difficult to sew than I anticipated but I know it will be worth the effort when I see them looking fabulous and feeling comfortable while we get our hair and makeup done. This is my favourite wedding idea mainly because my wonderful girls have been such a big part of all my wedding planning and this is the one thing that will be a complete surprise for them.
My favourite part that we are planning for our wedding is, instead of using place cards we are using old photo’s of our guests. They will be framed in white recycled card board frames with “Thank you for making our wedding picture perfect” handwritten on each frame.
I have asked each guest to submit an old picture of themselves which we will put a yellow tone through to make it suit our vintage theme. This also a good way for the guests to be entertained by walking around the tables looking at each others funny pictures.
My favourite thing we have planned for our wedding is my dad is restoring an Holden HZ to drive me to our ceremony in. It means so much to him and the two of us that all of Dad’s hard work will get to be shown off in front of our nearest and dearest.
We really wanted a photobooth at our wedding but feel that they have been a bit overdone in our friendship circle as of late. Instead we have got some cheap digital cameras to place on every table along with some cute paper props from etsy so that everyone can still take fun photos! Bonus – It will be without everyone being dragged away to line up at the photobooth so no one will feel like they are missing out on anything to take pics!
Wow, just one fav thing so far? I have many! I am going to go with our invites! My partner and I did our own invites. We took photos of ourselves on the beach with chalk boards and props inviting our guests to come to our wedding. We then put them all together and got them printed on photo paper and sent them out. The most exciting part has been the response we have gotten from our guest saying things like how much they adore them and are so ‘us’. I am very excited and can not wiat for our May wedding in Maroochydore 🙂
My fav thing planned so far is DIY decorations! After reading so many blogs on DIY weddings and researching on green weddings, it has inspired me to make my own decorations. One reason being the personal touch it gives and also who could’ve thought recycling items would be so much fun!
My favourite part of organising our wedding has been getting creative with the invites, place cards and gift bags.. and in the process becoming stamp obsessed. I have an alphabet stamp set which I will use to stamp each guest name on their invites and place cards. I have also bought a custom made ‘thank you’ stamp to stamp on paper bags for the lolly buffet! Being able to do all this little detail is the fun part!
Instead of table numbers we have named every table adjectives which we envisage our marriage will be. To bring this idea to life we have attempted to portray the adjectives with photos of ourselves.
My favourite is the ‘Enchanted’ table with the photo being of my fiancé and I in whimsical attire looking as though we are straight out of a fairy tale (with our inspiration being Taylor Swift’s ‘Love story’ video clip).
My partner is soooo obsessed with a few things. And he has let me go all bridezilla and plan every minute matching details of our day. So to say thanks and surprise him on the days I’ve organised for him to drive to the church in a mustang (he’s ALWAYS wanted to drive one).
And he LURVES Mr Whippy (strange, I know) – so I’ve organised for one to be there when we walk out of the church so all our guests can get a free ice cream in us
My favorite part of my future wedding is the traditions. There is one tradition that says that the bride and groom have to ask for forgiveness from their parents before actually getting married. And there is a special ritual for it.
