There is a beautiful and classic nature about the old Hollywood style of today’s shoot featuring models Ben Siero and Lucy-May Forbes. It’s full of gorgeous inspiration ideas to style an indoor venue in a way that pulls together all kinds of wonderful moods. A group of Perth wedding professionals came together and pulled together two shoots (we’ll be featuring the next one in a few weeks) that featured vintage, alternative, whimsical and romantic into the one occasion.
Rebecca of Fox and Rabbit explained the concept to me. “This shoot mostly came about due to the First Comes Love – Alternative Bridal Fair; which was where I met most of the vendors for the first time. It is always so refreshing to meet like-minded creative types with a passion to provide alternate wedding options to the Perth market. Initially, it was to be a small collaboration between myself (Fox and Rabbit) and Angela Higgins; who has fast become my favourite wedding photographer for her ability to capture all the finest details to complete perfection. Soon enough the collaboration grew to be quite an event, as wonderful vendors such as Her Hand Picked Harvest, Mitchell and Dent, Milla Makeup and Loui Col come on board.
My intent was to provide two different styles at the same venue and in the same surroundings. I hope to stretch imaginations; opening up the possibility for words such as ‘vintage’, ‘alternative’, ‘whimsical’ and ‘romantic’ to co-exist as one concept. I am particularly proud to showcase wonderful Perth talent and my hat goes off to all of the vendors involved who worked so hard to complete the vision – particularly Angela and the management at The Brown Fox who so generously lent us there venue for an entire day.”
I love this unstructured bouquet – the dreamy, soft colours are so romantic and feminine while being a little whimsical.
A wood carved invitation perhaps? The style of the stationery used throughout the shoot is alternative, a little different- but the font, the words and text placement is so classic that it brings back that Hollywood glamour element and pulls it together.
First Comes Love magic continues to inspire! It looks amazing folks x
Gorgeous photos but I’m afraid that model was a bad choice – what bride doesn’t smile on their wedding day?! I understand it’s an artistic shoot but she has one expression throughout and it’s quite uninspiring…
I have to disagree with you Anne on your comment. I believe that the model has more than one expression – her eyes are clearly different in each image. I think you will find in recreating the vintage aesthetic feel to the images having a bride to be acting anything but how the model portrays in this series would be unauthentic.
In the era the role of the lady was a demure and often classy demeanor if you look back at early 19th century imagery and wedding portraits the subjects all had wooden expressions which was due to being directed so by the photographer. As a professional photographer myself It is my responsibility to judge the look and feel of the images I am creating and discussing them with the client. A model used the photographer as her “mirror” for feedback. If she was being directed the way she looks then it lies with the photographer and not the model. The male model has the same expression throughout the series too? So I must disagree with your comment about the wrong choice of model – she clearly portrays affection with the ladylike grace and elegance that is suited to this era and especially the likes of early photographers and their subjects. Sincerely.
I appreciate your point of view and where you are coming from – my point was simply that I don’t think she conveys at all the emotions one feels on their wedding day, and for that I find her haughty and unauthentic.
I agree with Anne’s comments. The photo’s are beautiful, but there is no emotion from the female model. She looks sad to have been ‘married’, which I hope isn’t the case for brides out there!
I think you have also missed the point of what the team was trying to recreate here and suggest you google older photographs from this era. In that day and age one did not show emotion as they do today due to social restrictions placed upon women in that day and age. It would be improper.
These photos are pretty, I especially like the styling of the photos with the little vintage details!
