Australian Country Wedding (45)

Cheyenne and Nic

Let’s kick back, put on our comfiest flat shoes (I can never find comfy flat shoes, is that just me?) and take a trip to the country today – Towrang to be exact! For today’s lovely, colourful country celebration!

Photos today are by Leah Kua. I love  how Leah has captured so beautifully the wide open countryside, the small little glances, the vibrant colours and the dreamy portraiture.  These images have such a rawness, a pureness to them.

Cheyenne and Nick married at Greenwich Park, Towrang. Cheyenne explains, “We had always struggled to find the “perfect” site for ceremony and reception, if Nic liked something I was skeptical, if I liked something Nic wasn’t sure. We had first looked at Greenwich years ago when we were freshly engaged and I thought it was too far out of town to get the guests to travel. Anyway once we had started to organise the wedding Nic had refreshed it in my mind as a perfect place as it was altogether and we could get accommodation onsite. Nic contacted the manager of the property (as it is a running farm) because he knew him from doing some pest control years previous and we were able to obtain it for the weekend. We had run of the place practically to ourselves!”

Anna from Utopia Beauty Therapy Day Spa at Orange styled the girls makeup and nails and Amanda Fletcher styled the girl’s hair. The stationery was designed and made by the bride and groom with materials sourced by Cristina Re Stationery.

Cheyenne wore “Inga” by Watters and paired it with “Dalziel” by Tony Bianco. Her earrings were borrowed from her mother while her black and white pearl ring is a family heirloom from Cheyenne’s grandmother. Cheyenne’s bridesmaids wore vivid orange gowns from Seduce. Floral arrangements were created by Loveflowers.

Cheyenne describes the day as “A wonderful celebration of love with close friends and family shown by laughter, tears, karaoke and a lot of dancing!”

The groom and his groomsmen wore ties from Yd Ties from the UK. Cheyenne recalls “My husband lost my son’s shoes and socks for his wedding suit. Still can’t find them. So we had to have him in his boots and a pair of blue socks……”

Cheyenne walked down the aisle to”She” by Elvis Costello (covered by Melanie Horsnell). Cheyenne says “I had absolutely struggled with all the music for my wedding, either I had too many songs or they weren’t just right! I had originally wanted to use an Ipod as we were sticking to a strict budget until my mother in law offered “The Tom and Dave Show” to us. I contacted the band and asked them along with being at the reception if they would sing me down the aisle, I emailed them the link to the song I wanted and they did it all without a problem. It was absolutely beautiful to walk down the aisle to a live band and what a band they are!”

Cheyenne recalls her favourite moment of the ceremony. “Nic’s sister, Callie, did a beautiful reading at the ceremony that she had written herself. We are a very close family and to have her share something that special was a very poignant moment of our wedding.”

Of their photographer, Cheyenne says, “My soon to be sister in law is a photographer and as much as she wanted to photograph our wedding she wanted more to be a part of it as a guest. She however recommended to us Leah Kua whose work she had admired  for some time. We contacted Leah after looking at her website and saw the amazing photos she had taken.

Leah captured every moment on our special day and I believe we are so lucky and blessed to have had someone so talented and with such vision to be there for us. Looking back on my photos I remember exactly what the day was for us through our photos every emotional, smile and bit of laughter was captured absolutely perfectly and I believe that anyone who views them can feel it also. Leah’s photos are definitely one in a million.”

Cheyenne remarks “I wanted to be different with most features of our wedding and I did a lot of research into favours and had come up with something I knew of other brides doing but no one I had known personally. So I purchased small brown envelopes from etsy along with a calligraphy stamp made by hand saying “Nicolas and Cheyenne, Greenwich Park 9th April 2011”. I filled each envelope with native flower seeds and on the back I wrote instructions on planting the seeds to “Watch the love grow”.”

Cheyenne and Nic put their own special touches on their wedding day, Cheyenne explains, “I had tried to DIY for as many aspects and features of our wedding as possible. We set it up and we packed it up, it was wonderful for us to be able to have it exactly how we envisioned it to be which made it all that more unique for us.”

Even the centrepieces tied in the with the vibrant country theme! Cheyene says, “My mother came up with a brilliant idea for the centrepieces, rather than numbering our tables we should have individual and different centrepieces to differentiate between them. On the table seating we drew the different items on the centrepieces and people would sit at their individual table. We had sheep, wheat, a rooster, cow bell, hay bale, pine cones, and horse shoes for the bridal table.”

A two tier chocolate wedding cake was decorated with orange roses and was made by Mandy’s Cakes.

Cheyenne remarks, “I always thought I’d be able to do everything and not rely on family members and friends for help…. wasn’t going to happen! Luckily, Nic’s eldest sister Zoe who is full of creativity and ideas helped us with the bridal table. I always had visions on minimalism and less is more and she had the forethought to see what we needed to attribute the reception. We bought metres of hessian and ribbon and set to work 2 nights before the wedding at it fit perfectly.”

The catering was done by Sheryl from Coast To Coast the Golden Roast from Wollongong. Cheyenne remarks, “They were fantastic. Very easy to deal with…..and fantastic food to boot!!!”

Cheyenne and Nic had a traditional bridal “Sway”. Cheyenne remarks “If you can call it dancing! Nic said from the beginning that he didn’t know how to dance and that he wasn’t going to go to any lessons! After him saying this I wasn’t too worried because he wasn’t really a terrible dancer and once we picked the song to dance to which was “She Gets Me” by Gary Allan I knew however we danced didn’t matter. From memory I believe we talked, sung and laughed together and from the photos Leah had captured that perfectly. We swayed and then once the song finished the Tom and Dave Show played “In These Arms” by Bon Jovi and the real wedding dance was shared with all our guests which was (marked by)  some very outlandish moves!”

Cheyenne loved the day, but the dancing was the hit amongst the guests. She explains, “Everything was special of course although I believe the most favoured comments we received were about the reception and the awesome band we had. From the moment we entered the shearing shed we were serenaded with everything from Matchbox 20 to Lady Gaga. The atmosphere created was electric with love, laughter and happiness and we were so happy to be there in those special moments. It was definitely about the celebration and the celebration with the people we love most.” The Tom and Dave Show” kept guests on the dance floor long into the night.
