The Australian Spring wedding season is fast approaching and with it, our “collection” of amazing sketches also known as our pin board is drowning in unique and diverse designs for upcoming weddings. Today we are opening up the Cake Occasions sketchbook for you and letting you have a sneak peak into Christopher, our principal designer’s creative process.
Almost every great design be it a dress, a pair of shoes or even a cake starts life on a piece of paper. Sketching ideas helps both the artist and the client create a more concrete impression of their idea for a cake.
The ideas for our cake designs are often just a spark of imagination which has been inspired by a piece of fabric, a flower, a colour or even a lofty, intangible thing like romance or sunlight. As a cake artist interpreting these ideas it is much easier when you can share the vision with your client. In a weird way it is like a police sketch artist pulling ideas and images out of a witness’s brain to compile an image of the crook. Chris sits down with couples and picks their brains about what they would like to create.

Ms Gingham says: This look into the creativity that goes into making these cakes a reality is such a treat (pardon the pun … I couldn’t resist). Just taking a look on Cake Occasion’s gallery on their website makes your jaw drop and activates your saliva glands!
