Sarah and Lee
I have a thing for classic weddings, I also have a love of Australian native blossoms – so when you marry the two in a beautiful wedding like today’s of Sarah and Lee, you have one stunning combination! Sarah and Lee held a beautifully classic Australian wedding in Sydney and added an Australian theme with the most stunning floral arrangements and stationery.
Sarah tells how she met her husband. “Lee and I first met in Year 11 of high school (yes we’re high school sweethearts)…”
We’re joined with stunning images by David Henry Photography today. David’s captured a drama in his photographs – an intensity to mark the occasion with the weight that it carries.
Sarah wore a sweetheart neckline strapless gown with intricate beading from Glamour Bridal Collection.
The girls carried bouquets of Australian natives styled by Nightingales Wedding Designers (who also assisted Sarah & Lee in planning the wedding.) The bridesmaids wore black gowns from Novita Boutique.
Sarah and Lee held their ceremony and reception at Gunners Barracks. Sarah remarks “I couldn’t recommend them higher, their organisation and preparation meant the day ran flawlessly. The scenery was beautiful and the food delicious!”
There was only one hiccup on the day, Sarah remembers. “I accidentally forgot to wear my garter which was my ‘something blue’! We remembered in the car on the way to the ceremony! So we had to make do with the only blue thing I could find… A Mt Franklins Water Bottle label tucked down the front of my dress!”
After the ceremony, Sarah changed from her Alan Pinkus high heels to white Doc Marten boots which she customised with silver, white and blue laces that she made from ribbons.
The couple chose a lunchtime reception and an Australian theme for their day. Sarah explains, “Our wedding inspiration was after Lee and Sarah’s careers as environmental scientists – a rustic Australian bush theme. Our bonbonniere were Australian native plant saplings, and our flowers were all Australian natives. The invitations, thank you cards, name cards and cake all featured a scientific drawing of a native fern and cicada insect (skilfully designed by Jess Foy of The Distillery) .” Nightingales Wedding Designers put together the wedding day while Cake Occasions created a three tier cake to match.
The couple hired Slide Mcbride to get guests dancing. Sarah explains “Our first dance was to ‘Moondance’ played by our terrific band Slide McBride. They were excellent. So many people came up to us commending the band. They made the day special and fun.”
Congratulations Sarah and Lee! Thank you for sharing your wedding day with us on Polak Dot Bride! Thank you also to David Henry Photography for sharing today’s images!
Beautiful black and white photography! I love the bride’s photo with the stone wall background.
Love the dress, too!
