I’ve been wanting to write this for ages – but I had to get the timing right. Because this is about joy. That wonderful feeling you get from doing something really good. Or from witnessing first hand a moment of pure  happiness. It doesn’t happen every day, but there is nothing like it when it does …

Right now, I am basking in the glow of true joy. Half an hour ago, I declared an absolutely delightful, utterly in love, couple to be husband and wife. I saw the happy tears in their parent’s eyes. I watched them look at each other, share a whisper and a giggle as they put rings onto each other’s fingers. I led a round of applause as they kissed – and I felt their joy. Bubbles and buckets of it!

After the ceremony was complete, and the new Mr & Mrs were being congratulated by happy friends and loving family, I waited – (because I can never leave without a hug). When it was my turn, I heard “thankyou, thankyou, thankyou, thankyou, thankyou” and I realised that as much as I could thank them in return, for inviting me in, for sharing their joy, and for trusting me to bring them to this moment, they would never really know that right at that moment, I was every bit as excited and happy, as they were.

People like me, those of us who work in the bridal industry, are a privileged few. We work tirelessly to achieve other people’s joy. We give up our weekends. We have virtually no social lives of our own. We work out of hours. We have no public holidays. We work really, really hard, to make things beautiful for you. We help make dreams come true. We make things run smoothly. We go above and beyond. We turn ordinary girls into princesses for a day and their lucky grooms into very, very happy men.

Yet, we are also the lucky ones. Not many people can say that they genuinely love every minute of their work. That they go to beautiful places to be surrounded by happy people – and that they are inspired by them, over and over again.

The joy of it all grabs me and wraps itself around me with every new couple I marry. I am as moved as they are, and equally caught up in their moment, too. My brides and grooms trust me to make one of the most important moments in their lives beautiful ……. and I can’t wait to do it again.

Oh, the joy! (There’s really nothing like it!)

Belinda and Heath’s gorgeous Northern Beaches wedding was light and lovely and full of laughter. Just delightful!

Ms Gingham says: There’s nothing better to witness than people who love their work. These are the people that go above and beyond when it comes to making things just right. Thanks to Robyn for sharing her love of her job with us!

Robyn says: “I am quite possibly the happiest marriage celebrant in Sydney! Weddings are my thing! Nothing makes me happier than a really happy couple – every time.”
