Australian designer Bowie Wong released his “Paper Cranes” collection recently at Sydney’s Rosemount Australian Fashion Week and in amongst the stunning collection were seventeen beautiful bridal gowns.
Growing up in Hong Kong and training in Tokyo, Bowie’s Asian heritage heavily influences his collections. Paper Cranes debuted in a white winter wonderland, allowing the garments to appear almost angelic. Bowie takes each collection and tells a story through his garments.
Bowie works with brides over four appointments (one style consultation, two fittings and collection) to create a customised gown based off Bowie’s couture collection. Bowie works with each bride to ensure style choices and fabric selection are the right fit for the walk down the aisle.
From voluptuous bodices, to tiered skirts and dramatic asymmetrical necklines, I love Bowie’s sense of drama and the eastern influences in his gowns bring the delicate nature of origami-like fabric placement to create gowns that are truly works of art.
