We all know how much I swoon and gush over beautiful photographs, real moments and candid and this weeks Vendor of The Week White Tulip Photography is all about the “Real”. Based in Western Australia, Amanda Bowler (or Mandy as I know her!) is truly focusing on “wedding photojournalism” and when I mean truly, I think there are a lot who say it and capture a few candid moments, but some? They literally get in there and capture the rawness, the unexpected, the “ugly cry” and all the heart and soul that goes with it. She comes up with the most beautiful images- I know you’ll agree!
To learn a little more about White Tulip Photography. we asked Mandy five questions in five minutes!
Your favourite after five drink?
Well a nice glass of Margaret River semillion sauvignon doesn’t go astray, but I discovered Long Island Iced Tea a few months ago and have been smitten ever since hehe 🙂
Favourite weekend getaway?
With two kids, I rarely get away just for the weekend. However, I adore traveling and when I do travel, it is for extended periods of time. My last trip was Italy in 2010 and it was the most incredible trip. Sigh…..
Your favourite restaurant?
Ooooh that’s a hard one! I just love eating out in general but don’t have one particular favourite. I’m a sucker for Thai and Italian 😉
Your typical Sunday morning breakfast?
Ah lazy Sunday mornings with my boys. I make a mean omelette 🙂 🙂 Freshly squeezed juice is lovely too – apple, pear and strawberry yummo!
Your favourite wedding story?
I get quite emotional sometimes at weddings. I have this thing of putting myself in people’s shoes and thinking about my family, especially during the ceremony and the speeches at the reception. A recent wedding was very sad and joyful at the same time. The groom’s father was very ill. So ill that they brought the wedding forward by 7 months. During the groom’s speech, he spoke about his dad (who was looking very proud and heartbroken at the same time) and said, “Dad, you will always be a champion in my eyes”. Lucky for autofocus because the tears were welling up and spilling over. The whole room was a mess.
Some people may think that professional wedding photography is expensive, or unnecessary, or overrated but your wedding photos are the one thing that you will always have. It isn’t just about the bride and the groom even, although of course they are the most important people on the day. Family and friends coming together to celebrate – it is a rare occasion these days. Think about the future. The groom will always have images of his father standing proudly in a family portrait with him; he will always have images of his father getting up to speak at the reception, to the loud chanting of the Collingwood team song; he will always have images of his father dancing with his mother.
Most importantly, they will be passed down through the generations. Memories live on.
