What a wedding filled weekend it has been! From the first arrivals to the last goodbye, we were glued to the TV along with millions around the world as we watched the wedding of Catherine and William! As it’s our usual “Fashion Monday” I thought I’d take a look at the style and fashions from the wedding.
Catherine’s Gown…
As Sarah Burton was spotted entering the hotel the evening before the wedding, everyone knew the dress would have something to do with Alexander McQueen and what a beautiful, graceful gown it was! Entirely appropriate for the royal wedding day. Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen designed Catherine’s wedding gown using lace applique made by Royal School of Needlework. The gown was made from ivory and white satin gazar along with hand cut French Chantilly and English lace and featured a 2.7 metre train with arches and pleats to add structure. Catherine wore a silk tulle veil along with a Cartier tiara owned by the Queen. Her diamond earrings were a gift from her parents.
Catherine also wore shoes made by the Alexander McQueen team featuring ivory silk and lace.

The Evening Reception Gown..
To celebrate through the night, Catherine changed into a more relaxed evening gown with a strapless neckline, also created by Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen. The gown featured an embroidered waistband and Catherine wore a cashmere cream cardigan over the top.

The Maid Of Honour…
Stealing the show, Maid of Honour Phillipa Middleton also wore a gown by Sarah Burton at Alexander McQueen. Made from silk crepe, the lace detailing and buttons echoed the design of Catherine’s gown. Pippa changed to an Emerald Green floor length gown for the evening reception.

The Flower Girls & Page Boys..
Childrens wear designer Nicki Macfarlane made the gowns for the younger bridesmaids to echo Catherine’s gown. The skirts were box pleated, ballerina length with puff sleeves. Each is under-trimmed with the same lace and button detailing as Catherine’s gown and finished with a champagne gold sash tied in a bow. They wore satin Mary Jane shoes.
The page boys wore outfits reminiscent of the foot guards at the time of the regency. The red coats, detailed with gold were worn with breeches, white stockings and black buckled shoes.

The Guests…
As is English traditional, hats and hair pieces filled the Abbey, from big floral fascinators, to wide brimmed straw creations. The Queen wore a primrose yellow ensemble by Angela Kelly, the Duchess of Cornwall, a champagne ensemble touched with duck egg blue designed by Anna Valentine. Carole Middleton, the mother of the bride wore a soft blue coat dress designed by Catherine Walker.

I want to see the Duchess of York’s daughters taking part in a “What not to wear” program… 😉 Given they were seated right behind the Queen, I wonder if it was their way of saying” “That’s what you get for not inviting our Mother.” I fall into the Pippa’s dress was better stakes…but that is not to say I did not think Kate looked absolutely beautiful….just personally would have preferred to see her in Pippa’s dress with long sleeves and a train..and presto…instant stunning, glam, sexy but demure modern princess bride.
I also preferred Pippa’s dress. Beatrice and Euginie… dear oh dear! Having said that I thought the whole wedding was absolutely stunning 🙂
That hat on Princess B was a shocker. Camilla should have stayed away as a mark of respect to Diana.
Love kates earring!
Such a beautiful wedding. I love all the details and the new princess looks stunning.
I loved Pippa’s dress! I read a great article on Wendy Harmer’s new website for women called “The Hoopla” that said Pippa’s dress was very similar to the wedding dress worn by socialite Baba Beaton (sister of society photographer, Cecil) in 1934. It is definitely a classic!
