Angela and David
Today’s wedding has a kind of whimsical, vintage quirkiness to it. The elegance and style of yesterday, with the fun and frivolity of Angela and David- today’s newlyweds!
Angela explains how they met. “We met during university orientation week at the Sydney Dental Hospital in the extraction clinic. My first impression of Dave was that he was really stuck up. But over the months got to know him better and he proved me wrong. Dave professed his affections on MSN messenger and after longing looks over drilling teeth we eventually got together.”
Today’s photographs are by Inlighten Photography who are brilliant at capturing the details, the style and the execution of a beautiful wedding like this.
The males in the wedding party went for a funky look. Angela says “We were trying to go for a mish mashed trendy look that wasn’t too stuffy or hot for a summer January day. The groom and groomsmen all wore tight black jeans, vests and bow ties. The red plaid bow ties were from the Etsy seller “Sew Fairy Cute”.”
Angela and her bridesmaids used hair & makeup artist Emma Haddock. Angela recalls “She did all our hair and makeup single handed. She made everyone look so good, was easy going, very experienced and actually listened to what each of us wanted and recreated it perfectly. The makeup lasted all day and night and was actually difficult to get it off at the end of the night when I actually wanted it off.”
Angela wore a gown by Australian designer Johanna Johnson “ I really wanted a art deco/old Hollywood kind of dress that wasn’t white, stiff or ‘boofy’, so just absolutely fell in love with all her slinky dresses, it was so hard to choose which one I wanted they were all so pretty! I eventually decided on the dress called “The Flora”. A heavy silk satin gown in a latte colour, it had a low back and full train, featuring a hand beaded Swarovski “Garland” detail at the front and a matching silk satin encrusted waist tie. The hand beaded Swarovski headpiece was also from Johanna Johnson. I made the veil myself from french silk tulle from Tessuti fabric store in Surry Hills.”
Angela’s bridesmaids wore different gowns. “The dresses were from Seduce, Witchery and Wish. I wanted them to feel comfortable and dressed to suite their body shapes and styles, we didn’t actually see the dresses together until the wedding day, thank god they all matched and worked well together.”
The girls carried bouquets in shades of cherry reds, pinks and purples style by Kelly at The Floral Decorator . Angela says “For the bouquets I really wanted beautiful and delicate bright coloured flowers in pink, red, purples and blues, not too structured looking.”
Angela and David held their ceremony and reception at Seargents Mess. “Sergeants Mess is a beautiful venue with decking along the full length of the building, it has stunning views of Camp Cove, Watsons Bay and Rose Bay bay, we used it for both the ceremony and reception.” Angela walked down the aisle to the Glee version of the Bruno Mars song “ Just the way you are”.
“Our celebrant was Robyn Pattison. She created a beautiful ceremony for us. She is incredibly organised, always kept us n check through meetings, emails and homework!”
Of the favourite memories of her wedding day, Angela recalls ” I loved the relaxed atmosphere, beautiful decorations and flowers, photo slideshow of the day during the reception, all our family and friends and of course each other.”
After their location photos, the party continued inside at Sergeants Mess.
Photos of loved ones weddings were placed on a table together.
Kelly at the (The Floiral Decorator styled the reception flowers. Angela recalls “For the guest tables we had little glass jars of similar mixed bright flowers. In addition Kelly created 3 stunning feature areas of bright flowers in different height vases to simulate the look of a flower shop.
Centrepieces/table numbers were internally lit up handmade terrariums of quirky forest scenes. Place cards were luggage tags with beautiful/funny quotes of animals and pets since we love animals so much. Bon bons were hand needle felted peas with little Swarovski eyes and sewn on red lips that kiss when brought together (magnets placed on the inside) – they sat in handmade pea pods. We bought an old retro typewriter for the guest book, and borrowed an old suitcase as our “wishing suitcase”. I tried to make everything I could handmade, from the invitations to the decorations.”
Sharon Wee Creations created the two tier cake. Angela says “We had an absolutely delicious and moist polka dot 2 tier round cake, with 2 bunny dentists brushing a tooth, top layer red velvet, and bottom mud cake.”
To add to the delight of guests, Angela and David provided fun touches at the reception like a typewriter guest book and photo booth. Angela remembers “We hired a Funbooth – it was one of our best decision for the wedding! Everyone LOVED it and it was used throughout the whole night. We bought some props from a $2 store to make the photos more interesting and by the end of the night they definitely were!”
Thank you for sharing your wedding day with us Angela and David! Congratulations! Thank you also to Inlighten Photography for sharing today’s photographs!

This wedding was an absolute delight! Angela and David were relaxed and easy and fun to work with and I loved every moment of time I spent with them. Yes, I did a bit of chasing and organising – but only so everything would be perfect for them. And it was. Angela & David xxxxx
