Kate and Matt
Today’s Sydney wedding of Kate and Matt is so Sydney, but has the retro, sunny style that I think looks so true to them and who they are. From Kate’s amazing ruffled gown, to her white framed sunglasses To the delicious looking red cards, to the reception cupcakes. It’s so funky, so retro and so cool – gosh, Aussie brides, you never cease to amaze me with your varied and different sense of style.
Kate tells the romantic tale of how she met her husband. “We met on New Years Eve (well 3am New Year’s Day actually) in 2007/2008 at the Zanzibar in Newtown and have been inseparable ever since.”
Photography today is by Welsch Photography– I love the style they’ve captured Kate and Matt in. It seems to suit their personality and the vision they had for the wedding so beautifully.
Kate wore a ruffly gown from Dolly Up Emporium “I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this shop to anyone who is looking for a truly unique, vintage dress at a reasonable price. The bridal wear in this shop is not kept on the racks so at first glace you would never know they specialise in vintage bridal dresses. Erin, who runs the shop, is amazing and their gowns are gorgeous. They simply don’t make dresses like they used to. I didn’t want to spend a fortune on my dress but I wanted something that was truly me and unique. This is the first dress I tried on and fitted like a glove – destiny! Dolly Up is a great little hidden gem for unconventional brides”. Kate carried a bouquet from Harperwood Floral Design.
Matt and his groomsmen wore a suit from All The Rage Formal wear, Annandale and wore white shirts made by by Webster In White “Simon makes great shirts and is a dream to deal with!”.
Kate and Matt were married on Sydney’s Observatory Hill. Kate says “We walked down the aisle to “All I Want is You” by Barry Louis Polisar – we love that song and wanted to start our day with something quirky and ‘us’.
Post ceremony, Kate and Matt wandered Sydney streets with their bridal party for their photo session.
The bridal party were transported in sparkling red chevys, from Tuf 57 Chevys. Kate says “These guys were amazing!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND to anyone wanting an edgy vintage car with cruisey drivers.”
Kate and Matt enlisted the help of a wedding stylist at their reception venue Watersedge. “Angelic Events dressed the room for us – we absolutely loved the black and white striped tables with black and red glassware, and had so many compliments on how great it looked. It was one detail we debated over for some time, due to budget, but it was money well-spent. When you walked into WatersEdge the room just felt right for us and we wanted people to feel like it would be fun night from the first moment they arrived.”
The couple had their stationery designed and made by Hello!Lucky.
Kate says “We chose to ditch the tradition of a first dance, as neither of us are big dancers but we both love music. Instead we had our best man, Casey, sing his own version of “You’ve Got The Love” by Florence and The Machine. This is one of my favourite memories of the whole day!”
Kate’s final favourite memory is a romantic one. “Drinking champagne together on our balcony, overlooking the harbour, at the end of the night, debriefing on the day.”
Congratulations Kate and Matt! Thank you for sharing your wedding day with us on Polka Dot Bride! Thank you also to Welsch Photography for sharing today’s photographs!

Very cool styling! I love when couples really do their own thing. Awesome!
What a stylish wedding! I think red, black and white as a color scheme is so elegant and sophisticated. I adore everything the bride is wearing, from her AMAZING wedding dress, to her shoes, all the way to her white rimmed sunglasses!
