Samara & Nick
I recently received a lovely email from reader Sarah who thought I might be interested in today’s shoot. I was and I am, I love this gorgeous engagement session from Toowoomba, Queensland!
Photographer Darren of CKmetrophotos was contacted by Samara & Nick who wanted a “modern vintage” look to their engagement photos. They enlisted the help of Peter Downsteam Tourist Railway and Museum for some fun train photos and then headed for a picnic in the park in some of the beautiful gardens around Toowoomba.
I love the creativity in this shoot and I love the fact it’s Australian. Gives me a little patriotic thrill down my spine! Congratulations on your engagement Samara and Nick!

….WOW!

Thank you so much Miss P for displaying these photos it is so good of you and thank you to my beautiful couple Samara and Nick for entertaining my crazy thought process 🙂
Stunning engagement shoot!! Love the train and the styling of the shoot.
If their wedding is going to be even half as cute as this shoot, I wish I was invited 🙂
I love the retro feel. Fabulous photo shoot and what a cute couple!
Such a cute shoot!
Love everything about this!! My fave shot is the foot shot in the train..so cute!
Great shoot – if it was for an ad campaign maybe. But I get nothing about the couple’s essence and how they feel for each other. All I see the focus on is a gimmicky color toning, with emphasis on costumes and props and not the people, to make-believe it’s something that it’s not.
Masterton- I’m sorry you feel that way. This is however, a real life couple who chose this way to represent their engagement.
I know many are “over” props- though using any such thing has been a rare trend in Australia and is much more prominent in US engagement shoots. However this couple chose this way to represent themselves and how they chose to do that is not for us to judge.
Thank you Mr Polka for your response to Masterton…. It is a personal journey and for this couple the romance and journey commenced on a train…. I also agree with Ms Polka we are only just starting to see this as something new and exciting. Whilst the “gimmicky” colour tones were chosen by me to represent the couple. All of the clothing is worn by this couple and not purchased for a “shoot”. Thank you for your feedback however. Also thank you Mr Polka for featuring this on your website very much appreciated 🙂
Thanks Ms Polka for featuring Nick and l on your beautiful blog site…Darren is an amazing photographer and well for Masterson as Darren stated none of the items you see in any photos were brought (apart for the lollies!). These photos truly represent Nick and myself. l very much love the 1950’s- the outfits worn are actually from my Mums wardrobe. And all the “props” are just pieces from my house. So once again Ms Polka Thanks for the inspiration you give to many becoming a bride. Truly Delighful.

I love this wonderful shoot of REAL couples who chose to have their wedding shot in this manner. Why bash someone’s choice and before saying anything deroggatory why not find out the facts. What’s the old adage, if you don’t have anything nice to say don’t say anything at all.
I absolutely adore the couple, Polka Dot Bride, and all the props used to “make believe”. So much I’m going to Tweet about it! xoxo

Oh to be getting married again!
The images are gorgeous and they are clearly in love.
I look forward to seeing their wedding photo’s featured on this site.
What a beautiful shoot! Some of those train shots look like they belong in the pages of Vogue. There’s a beautiful cinematic quality to them. Fantastic photography of a gorgeous couple!
Beautiful! Does anybody know where Nick’s outfit is from? My guy wants something similar xx
