Kate and Frank

I adore the classic beauty of today’s wedding- pretty soft pinks, classic whites and fresh green! I thought this was a beautiful spring wedding, but it’s actually a winter one! A perfect way to show it doesn’t matter what time of year it is- you can always use fresh colours!

Kate says “Frank and I were in the same circle of friends at school and became firm friends at 16. We starting dating in university and were married just prior to our 10 year anniversary.”

Kate wore a strapless gown with flower detailing, she says “My dress was an ivory strapless silk organza gown by Jian Ador in Rushcutters’ Bay. It was a variation of something that I saw in the window. I just had it simplified – I wanted something simple. I’m going to remove the flower from the front and have it framed.

My bouquet was a mix of ivory roses (my choice of roses was limited with a winter wedding), freesias and lisianthus. They smelled beautiful! My florist Verdaflore in Oatley was great – very chilled out but on the ball. She also gave great suggestions of what could work in winter time.”

Kate dressed the bridesmaids in pink gowns. “We had an idea of what we wanted for the bridesmaids – something cinched in at the waist and flattering for all the girls. My sister was pregnant with twins so we needed something that could be adapted to fit her. My mum selected a beautiful embroidered silk fabric in ivory (with a pink silk lining). My dress maker is a lovely lady who we’ve known for years. She always understands what we mean and is very relaxed about things.”

The bridal party traveled to the church in Kate’s late grandfather’s Jaguar. “It was special using my late grandfather’s Jaguar as the wedding car. It helped make him a part of our day. We also had a table near the wedding gifts with wedding pictures of our grandparents, parents and siblings.”

One of Kate’s favourite memories involves family. “I loved having my family and friends all together. I loved seeing all of the people who I hold dearest in the one place. My sister and brother-in-law traveled back from England, as did Frank’s brother. We were blessed to have all of our favourite people in that room to witness our marriage.”

Kate and Frank married at St James’ Catholic Church in Glebe. The couple had a Tongan choir singing throughout the service.

The couple chose Doltone House for their reception- one of the few Sydney locations that could accommodate their 300 guests! Kate and Frank’s first dance was a special one. “We danced to “Still the One” by Orleans. It was a fun, swing-style dance – quite fast and with lots of spins. That song kind of chose us – it’s not a typical wedding song, but the words were very apt and learning the dance was really fun.”

Kate made the invitations and place cards herself. The four tier wedding cake was made by Celebration Cakes. Kate says “The cake was a 4 tier round cake. It was ivory, with ivory ribbon wrapped around each layer and a couple of flowers placed on the tiers to reflect the flower on the front of my dress. The bottom two tiers were chocolate mud and the top two tiers were fruit cake – one to keep for our anniversary and one for the older guests who wanted the traditional fruit cake.”
