Josie & Simon
I thought today would be a fun day to share something we’ve never shared before on Polka Dot Bride – an anniversary shoot! There are chickens! And picnics! And cupcakes! Yes we have all of my favourite things in a sweet-as-can-be shoot by Canberra photographer Amanda Thorson of Thorson Photography.
Amanda decided to take photos of her brother Simon and his wife of exactly two years, Josie. Amanda explains, “A couple of weeks ago it was their two year anniversary and we thought it might be nice to get them dressed up again to celebrate. We went out to a property in Burra just outside Canberra. The shoot was inspired by things that Simon and Josie love and use in their everyday life….for example the big red trunk is their coffee table usually.” Simon and Josie didn’t have a lot of photos from their wedding as they wanted to keep the process short and not keep guests waiting. Amanda thought their two year anniversary was the perfect chance to get dressed up and have a bit of fun!
Josie’s dress was made by a friend and Amanda created the daisy bouquet using flowers she bought at the local market.
Josie’s niece saw what the couple were up to and decided to join in the fun! Her mother curled her hair and she put on her best dress.
Amanda wanted to reflect the couple’s personality so used props they already had at home. Josie baked gluten free cupcakes (Simon is a coeliac) and iced them with sprinkles.

What a gorgeous couple! Can I be totally superficial and say I love, love, love her freckles? I can’t wait until Summer when mine will come back!
I am really loving the natural-background motif I’m seeing lately in couples photography.
I think the bride should have smiled a little more in the pics, though. Not a criticism…she just has a great smile! A few non-smiling pics and a few more full-on grin ones would have been great
Good work, Amanda!
