InStitchu have founded their new mecca for grooms’, brides’ and gender-neutral wedding suits in Australia.

The label has set up its flagship showroom in the heritage Chanonry Building amid the “Paris End” of  Collins Street in Melbourne. This Edwardian-Baroque building is already hallowed ground for locals who seek the finer things in life. Not only was InStitchu’s new space once home to world famous art auction house Sotheby’s, but they are now neighbours with Christine Barro – known to those in the know as the doyenne of luxury accessories in Melbourne, and her “Christine” boutique upstairs.

“The original space when we took it over was a beautiful art gallery called Smith & Singer. You can probably tell by the high ceilings and when we walked in there were actually some pieces left over on the walls. We wanted to create a space that paid homage to the art gallery”, says InStitchu’s co-founder Robyn McGowan. “So we didn’t really want to change too much; that’s why you see a lot of big [photographic] pieces on the walls.”

Particularly welcoming to groups, this lofty, multi-level space will see your wedding entourage kitted out with precision. InStitchu defines their service as an “old-world tailoring experience” yet they make custom suiting approachable by ensuring guests have a dedicated stylist to guide them on a made-to-measure journey through fabrics and personalisation of lapels, cuffs, buttons and collars.

Co-founder James Wakefield says, “recently in Melbourne we’ve just been inundated with appointments, bookings, all of our showrooms on popular days are fully booked.  So this is about upsizing; a bigger, better, grander space to look after more customers and add a premium experience.”

And you can experience it all with a celebratory drink in hand; whether your choice is a relaxed tinnie, a fancy glass of bubbles or something refreshingly zero-proof. For those who do opt for a dram, InStitchu has also unveiled a new partnership. The flagship will be serving up ‘The Ben Buckler’ single malt whisky at consultations. This local drop is made by Australian television personality Larry Emdur with a helping hand from Corowa Distilling Co. It won gold at one of the most prestigious spirits awards in the world. So it should taste as good as you’ll be sure to look on your wedding day!
