No guessing games here: Meg and Mo knew they were serious about each other from day one. After matching on a dating app with marriage in mind, this down-to-earth duo planned a colourful spring wedding full of laughter, meaning, and personal style. With a playful photoshoot with their photographer, Kyra Boyer, and an Islamic ceremony honouring their shared faith, their celebration was as intentional as it was joyful!

Mo and Meg met on a Muslim dating app where they were both looking for marriage. “Muslim dating apps are a bit different because, as practising Muslims, we’re not supposed to date casually; we’re only supposed to date to get married. This means when you fill out your bio, you need to include how quickly you would like to get married! No guessing games around here.”

For Meg and Mo, a proposal would never be a surprise, as they had started talking about their marriage timeline pretty early on in the relationship. “I designed the ring, and Mo proposed on our first anniversary by handing me the ring box on my couch. After I said yes, we watched The Exorcist!”

Trying to find a hijab-friendly dress on a tight budget was a difficult task for Meg. She eventually came across The Crowned Veil, which she paired with this beautiful two-piece number! The stunning tulle skirt and the almost vintage-inspired silky top with gorgeous cuffed sleeves.

Mohamed wore a traditional Eritrean outfit called a jalabiya – a common item in the Muslim world. This particular jalabiya was handmade for Mo in Saudi Arabia.

This pair tied the knot at the small community centre at Coburg Lake, just across the road from where they had their first date! Having it at the community centre also helped them keep it intimate and casual without too much pressure.

Meg opted for a colourful artificial bouquet crafted by Studio Alyssum. “I wanted artificial because I wanted to be able to keep it forever. I requested a colourful bouquet and they really met the brief.”

For the ceremony, Mo and Meg had an Islamic ceremony called a Katb al-Kitab. “The Sheikh spoke about how important marriage is for Muslims and that this is a lifelong commitment. Our ceremony was said in English first and then in Arabic,” Meg explained.

When asked about her favourite part of planning, Meg said: “When the planning was over.”

Kyra Boyer was the perfect photographer for Meg and Mo, capturing their colourful shoot in her signature playful, joy-filled style. “Kyra was incredible. She made everybody feel so relaxed. We met Kyra at our friend’s wedding, and we loved her and the pictures she had taken. Neither of us are naturals in front of a camera, but she made us laugh and chill out. Before our wedding, she asked for a list of artists that we liked, and then she made a playlist with their music that she played while she took our photos. It helped us to relax and have some fun,” she shared.

The five things that made Meg and Mo’s colourful wedding so unique to them included:

“1. Family,

2. The sunshine,

3. Our photos,

4. The food,

5. Getting to feel beautiful.”

One of Meg’s favourite photos was taken while she and Mo were inside the venue in front of the stunning windows. “There was a moment when Kyra told us to move towards each other. I decided to twirl towards my husband and had a big smile, and he was laughing.”

The piece of advice Meg and Mo want to leave for future couples planning their wedding is this: “Have the type of wedding YOU want, and if that’s not possible, elope!”

Congratulations, Mo and Meg! Thanks to Kyra Boyer for capturing and sharing these beautiful moments with us.
