When life gives you lemons, to rain on the day of your engagement sessions, make like Ranko and Savannah and make lemonade! After being separated for months (Savannah lives in New Orleans and Ranko in Brisbane) when borders reopened, the pair were finally able to reunite. So what better way to commemorate the magic than with an engagement session?

Candid Chaser joined Ranko and Savannah for a day that despite the pouring rain, they didn’t want to cancel. And the result? Photographs that are moody, mystic and utterly romantic.

Perfect really for a couple that has devoted their life to one another since meeting on a dance floor! Savannah filled us in on how they met. “We met during our first week of medical school. I had seen him and instantly told a friend “that Serbian guy is cute”. Later that week we went out with some friends but got separated from the group and ended up dancing the night away together. The rest is history!”

The romance continued with a  Valentines Day proposal. “Our very first date was on valentine’s day in 2019. On Valentine’s day 2020, Ranko took me to the same exact restaurant we had gone to a year ago and then told me that he wanted to take me to a rooftop bar. We made a stop back at home first and he told me he wanted to go to the roof of our apartment building to watch the sunset quickly. We got up there and I saw one of my friends hiding behind the bar and a photographer hiding behind the pool. I knew what was about to happen, so I smiled at him and we both laughed and he nervously said “Just follow my lead”. The rest of it was a blur, but the sunset ended up being stunning and I’m reminded of that moment every time I see a gorgeous sunset.”

These two were well and truly happy with their choice of photographer, Savannah and Ranko appreciative of the commitment Ash showed. “I actually found Ash on Airbnb as an experience but I reached out and asked if he would do an engagement shoot for us. He accepted and was very open with ideas! He took into account exactly what we were looking for and also helped us pick the perfect spots for photos since he knows the area. He was very sweet and even brought us extra props since we were flying in from other places.

He also ran around in the rain for us for one of our shoots! Ash was not afraid to do what it takes to get the shot and he even extended our time to try and take us to the best places. Not to mention, he’s got amazing photography skills and made us look like models in all his shots!”

“I love Ranko’s passion and drive” tells Savannah of Ranko. “He puts his all into everything and everyone that he loves and constantly strives for the best. On top of that, he’s one of the funniest people that I’ve ever met and he keeps a smile on my face at all times. He’s my best friend and I think that’s what makes our relationship so beautiful.”

On what he loves about Savannah, Ranko tells “I love Savannah’s smile, her kind soul, and the way she cares about those that are vulnerable. I love the way she treats me as an equal, nothing is out of the question in the sense that acts of kindness go both ways for us. I love her positive energy as well, it’s contagious and always puts me in a good mood. I love that she’s not afraid to make a fool of herself and laugh at her mistakes. I also love how we enable each other to be better versions of ourselves, not because we’re forced to but because we want to.”

After the rain (a few days later to be precise)? It was time for a little sunshine session by the beach. “I’ve always wanted to take photos by the beach and in the water” explains Savannah. “Since Covid hit, Ranko has been out in Brisbane while I am in New Orleans to finish school. Sydney opened up to international travellers first, so we travelled there to meet up after a year and I knew how stunning and romantic the beaches would be. The photos ended up being the most beautiful photos we’ve ever taken!”
