Look, I am not one to be obsessed with things, but I admit, polka dots are my thing. So it was many many moons ago (I’ll admit, almost 15 years) when a fellow called  Sweet Paul dropped into my inbox with his invention of a polka dot milkshake. And the original recipe (and post) may be long gone, but today, we honour the invention, and the whimsy of it, for the Polka Dot Issue with our own take – polka dot cocktail style!

This cocktail, brought to life with polka dots thanks to the good old marshmallow, is a boozy take on your classic strawberry milkshake. Pink and polka dots will always go down a treat, and this cocktail? It’s almost a dessert. So serve it up pre-midnight, or as a treat for brunch cocktails. Top with whipped cream and fresh strawberries for something really delightful.

Ingredients (makes two)

  • Six fresh strawberries (freeze them for an extra cold, extra creamy milkshake)
  • 4 scoops of vanilla icecream
  • 2 cups of milk
  • 30ml strawberry liqueur
  • 30ml Creme de cacao
  • 60ml vodka

Method:

  1. Cut marshmallows in half and press firmly to the sides of the glass. Pop your glass in the freezer (this helps the marshmallows to stick).
  2. In a blender combine ice cream, milk, strawberries, creme de cacao, strawberry liqueur and vodka and blend well
  3. Remove your glass from the freezer, and slowly pour in your milkshake
  4. Finish with a stripey paper straw.
