Weddings held at home are so very sentimental, comfortable and fun, but leave certain things to chance and you may end up with an on the day disaster you really don’t want to spend your precious time fixing. The team at Nudo Events have thoughtfully put together a list of ways to plan for the unexpected for your wedding at home so that you don’t get caught out, and all you have to do is get caught up in all the love on the day!

Weather: Have a plan – rain, hail or shine!

We all know just how temperamental the weather can be, but one thing we are not going to let it do is to ruin our wedding day! Make sure that part of your wedding planning process includes wet weather plans for the ceremony and reception if you’re planning on hosting your guests outdoors on the big day. By being prepared for this, you’ll save yourself any disappointment when the day rolls around.
Another tip! If the show must go on outside, ensure you’ve got plenty of umbrellas for guests and your bridal party, and don’t worry, these look awesome in photos!
When it comes to those hot days, a top tip is to ensure your guests have access to plenty of cold water throughout the day (to complement their bubbly of course!). It’s super important to make sure all guests remain hydrated while they’re dancing the night away so that everyone can have the best experience possible.

The All-Important Run Sheet

No matter how intimate your wedding is, there’s no reason why you should be running your day on the fly without a plan. A run sheet is a crucial part of the wedding planning process and includes everything from times, speaker names, entertainment and everything in between to ensure that all aspects of the event are accounted for and organised on the day. It’s your wedding day bible and having one pretty much ensures that your day is going to run as smoothly as possible. We know your guests are going to get caught up in the congratulations and well wishes, Instagram moments, and admiring of your beautiful space, and that’s where the run sheet and plan of action help keep everything running along and ensures no time is wasted and no special moments are missed!

When in Doubt – Outsource, Outsource, Outsource!

There are plenty of costs associated with your wedding day, and we can’t stress enough how important it is that you think about where your money is best spent. While it may be easiest to assign every on-the-day task to a family member or friend, and whilst they may be happy to do it, think about what you can do to eliminate stress on your wedding day. Have you considered hiring bar staff to handle all of your boozy requirements? An On The Day Coordinator who will take the reins and ensure everything goes exactly to plan? By outsourcing key elements of the day, you’re getting more bang for your buck and eliminating any risk of things going wrong. Smooth sailing galore!

Parking

No matter how big or small your wedding is, one of the most important factors you need to consider is parking. The last thing you want is for your guests to be late to the party because they have to do laps around the block trying to find a car spot or have to hike down side streets for miles.
A great idea is to leave a note on your invitations for guests letting them know exactly what the parking situation will be like so that they can be as prepared as possible. This could be your street with ample parking or a local carpark that will allow your guests to safely park their cars for the evening. Ideally, make sure that your streets are well lit at night and that there are footpaths for your guests to use because we all know nobody wants their high heels to get stuck in the mud!

Notify Your Neighbours

Nobody what’s a noise complaint from their neighbours on their wedding day. Nobody. One thing we recommend is to send a small note to your street neighbours politely informing them of your big celebration. This way, you can be sure your night will go off without a hitch and you won’t be disturbing anyone. Don’t forget to thank them the next day!

Necessities For The Venue

Let’s talk toilets. Your single household bathroom is not going to cut it when it comes to hosting all of your closest friends and family, and you don’t want guests waiting around all night to use it! An easy solution is to hire several portable toilets that can be set up outside somewhere in your space and be easily accessible to all guests throughout the night. The best part? You can avoid having guests flowing in and out of your house all night long!
