The idea of throwing your wedding at home was already something that was picking up steam, but it’s a trend that intensified throughout the pandemic, as many partners opted for more relaxed, safe, affordable, and customisable weddings. But that doesn’t mean stepping out in anything less than extraordinary – your outfit should still represent the fact that it is the biggest day of your life. With that in mind, we tapped the sartorial experts at InStitchu for their tips on three ways to dress for a home wedding.

Tailored Separates
Tailored trousers and a different blazer are a relaxed, personality-driven way to dress for your big day. There’s a whole spectrum of approaches; from contrasting wool trousers with a jacket – to chinos and a casual blazer. The trick is making sure that the fit is perfect, the quality of materials is high, and the colours and patterns fit your location and theme. A rural setting might be great for a country-style cream chino and navy blazer, while something summery or waterside could be perfect for an Italian play on contrasting wool or linen suits, the addition of a vibrant linen blazer, or a more traditional check wool jacket.
Super Smart Casual
What better opportunity to embrace the laid-back charisma of a casual suit than a wedding in your own home? From extra chill linen to slightly more traditional cotton and blends of the above, choose a fabric that captures your essence and go for gold. The casual edge of these fabrics mean you can have some more fun with accessories – perhaps a knit tie, a collared shirt worn open collar, a pair of loafers worn sans socks, or a pair of suspenders for the dance floor later. Just remember to choose casual details when you design your suit – patch pockets, contrasting buttons, an unlined structure and side tabs all sell the style.

Captain Classic
There’s something nice about dressing in classic garments for your wedding, regardless of where the event is, so why not select a crisp two-button navy suit in wool? Not only will it elevate the feel of the event, reassure your partner you’re ready to rise to the occasion, and ensure timeless photography for your mantle – it will also mean you’ve got a versatile, practical suit for work and play for the next five years!
