For a florist, it all comes down to the scissors. Like an illustrator and their ‘lucky pen’ or a builder’s ‘good hammer’, finding the right pair of scissors is something a florist starts doing while they’re still at TAFE. A bad pair of floristry scissors can leave your hands sore or even blistered at the end of the day, and potentially damage those delicate stems we’re trying to cut. On the other hand (pardon the pun), a good pair makes our jobs so much easier.

Every florist has a different preference when it comes to handle size or blade length, but we think once you’ve found a pair you love, stick to them. Buy multiple pairs, don’t trust imitations, and most importantly, make sure your workmates don’t nick off with them!
