Bleached white blooms are in demand just now, and heralding some excellent news, we bring you an easy way to create that beachy, light and airy tablescape! Using dried flowers, you can put together romantic centrepieces to create a dreamy vision in white.
If you’re organised, you can dry your own flowers. Look for delicate shapes but hardy blooms for the best results. Depending on how thoroughly you spray the blooms, there will be a little colour remaining, which is perfect for some warmth and variety.
What You Will Need:
- Dried flowers. You can source these from a local florist, or grab some bunches to dry yourself. Hang them upside down in a dry and dark space, making sure there is air movement so they don’t go mouldy.
- White matte spray paint
- Protective breathing mask, scissors, disposable gloves (if you fancy), drop sheet
- Containers for arrangements. You can use any container you desire! You could also use sprayed flowers in a hanging arrangement, or as a seating card
Step 1. Make sure the dried flowers are completely dry, and as dust free as possible. Lay down the drop sheet, and, carefully following the safety instructions on the paint tin, begin to spray the flowers white. Be thorough, covering the stems and all angles of the petals. You may need two to three coats.
Step 2. Once the flowers are completely dry, you can use them in any way you would like! To use them in a container or shallow bowl, very carefully press a squashed piece of chicken wire into the base of the container. If necessary, hold it with floral tac (or in a pinch, blu tac).
Step 3. To keep an arrangement light and airy, refrain from using too many stems. Keep heavier blooms (like the hydrangea) down low, and have lovely, organic stems curving up high. These arrangements are quite delicate, so putting them together onsite is recommended.
Step 4. You can also place the stems into a vase for a sturdier arrangement. Enjoy playing with the placement of stems, and remember, the fewer the better for a light and dreamy arrangement!
