‘Tis the season to be jolly! ‘Tis also the season for delicious gingerbread! Find yourself a good gingerbread recipe, test a few out to make sure, then source some pretty cookie cutters. If you decide to ice the cookies, be sure to let the icing dry before trying to thread any ribbon!
What You Will Need:
- Gingerbread dough (if making a lot, simply double or triple the recipe)
- Cookie cutters
- Rolling pin
- Sharp knife/straw
- Baking tray/baking paper
Step 1. Roll out the gingerbread dough to approximately half a centimeter thick. Keeping the cookies reasonably chubby will help them to keep their shape and be strong for threading. Cut out shapes and lay them on a baking tray. Keep re-rolling and cutting the dough until it’s all used up.
Step 2. Using a sharp knife, cut out two neat and small rectangles in the cookie (if using to tie around napkins) or use a straw to cut out a neat hole (if hanging from a branch). Place the tray of cookies into the freezer for 5 minutes (or the fridge until chilled), and bake until just golden brown.
Step 3. Thread beautiful ribbon through your cookies! You can tie the gingerbread cookies around napkins as a plate setting favour, loop twine through the biscuit and hang from a wishing tree, or use them piled high as part of your centrepiece decorations.
Ice the names of guests or the table number on each cookie, or call your baking friends around for their creative input! Having a sweet treat as a favour for guests will always be a winner, and these beauties are so easy, they’re just the (festively themed!) ticket!
