Summer weddings are so much fun to style. There are so many flowers around and when our clients have trust in us we can create the most amazing designs.

Here are some things to remember:

  • Flowers in direct sun are not happy, so make sure you are flexible with the outside designs if it is going to be warm
  • If you have to use your wet weather back up, the flowers you have organised may not work. Talk to your florist in the lead up about a plan if you have to move the ceremony inside/undercover. That way you both know what to do and there are no last minute freak outs!
  • The wind can play a factor too! make sure you are happy for your florist or stylist to change to sturdier frames/vessels if they are going to be blown away/over in the strong wind.

  • Tell your florist/stylist the accurate start times. Some clients tell vendors a few hours earlier to ensure everything will be set up very early. However, in the summer months, we put fresh flowers out as late as possible to avoid them decaying unnecessarily. If you do not give them accurate times, they will be wilting in the sun. Trust that your vendors know how long things will take to set up, so it will be perfect for your guests’ arrival.
  • If you are having a marquee or barn wedding, remember it can get hot, especially near the roof space. Consider hanging installations to be of hardier items (such as just foliages), rather than soft blooms.
  • Let your florist know if your venue has air conditioning or not, this may affect the time they plan to deliver

  • Be flexible with the designs, so your florist can use hardier blooms if its is super warm
  • Talk to your florist about designs which will allow the flowers to remain in water sources so they stay fresher for longer
  • Don’t go crazy with candles! They add to the heat in your venue and as it gets dark later, they don’t give the same ambience as they do in winter
  • Be open-minded about the flowers decaying over the day. If you want to give them to the guests to take home, they will still be lovely and able to be enjoyed just not as perfect as they started the day!
