The cooler seasons bring beautifully frosty mornings, the smell of wood burning fires and, of course, weddings that are styled to wintery perfection! If you’re wanting to try a little DIY for your guest favours, give these mulled wine sachets a whirl. They smell like Christmas and are easy to whip together, making them a win in every situation!
Stock up on spices and red wine and these beauties will be made in no time at all!
What You Will Need (per sachet):
- 2 x approximately 12x12cm muslin squares
- Thread and needle OR sewing machine
- 1 Tbsp dried orange peel (see instructions below)
- 1 x cinnamon stick
- 1 x tsp whole cloves
- 1 x star anise
- 5 black peppercorns
- 2 tsp brown sugar
- Optional – 1tsp allspice berries
Step 1. Begin by sorting all of your spices and cutting your cinnamon sticks in half. To dry the orange peel, peel the orange and ensure all the pith is removed. Place in the oven at 75 degrees for 45 minutes, or until dry but still orange in colour.
Step 2. Place one piece of muslin flat, and load it up with all the spices, dried orange peel and sugar.
Step 3. Once you have everything on the square piece of muslin, place the second square over the top and carefully sew around the edge. You can alternatively sew three sides and then fill, before completing the sewing. If you’re looking for a no sew method, simply make the muslin squares bigger, and tie them closed with some pretty ribbon!
Step 4. Place on each table setting or give with a flavoursome half bottle of red wine and tie with a tag. This these mulled wine sachets will be the perfect gift for your lucky guests!
