DIY Gold Scalloped Place Card Tutorial

When it comes to your wedding day, it’s all about the details. And it has to be said that a personal touch is always well received, especially as your wedding is the first official occasion where you are making a statement about your and your partner’s style. What we love about this tutorial is that it is easy to reproduce and it is a simple way of injecting a little sparkle into your event’s colour palate without going overboard. These place cards could also be used to label menu or dessert items or to give cute wedding-day instructions. The same technique can be used to scallop menus, invitations, thank you cards or any wedding stationery deemed sparkle-worthy.

You Will Need:
12 x Pre-made place cards (available at your local stationery or craft store)
Scallop template (see below)
Craft glue
Gold glitter
Inky black pen

Step One. Print the above template (in original size – don’t stretch it to A4 or shrink it smaller) onto cardboard if possible. If it is not possible to print onto cardboard, print onto paper and trace scallop stencil onto cardboard.

Step Two. Cut out scallop stencil. Position stencil right at edge of one side of the place card. Using a pencil, lightly trace the scallop shape along the edge of the place card.

Step Three. Using your scissors, take your time to cut along the line you have drawn.

Step Four. With the fine tip of your craft glue, trace a line of glue along the scalloped line you have just cut. It’s a good idea to have a practice on a scrap piece of paper before attempting your first place card, so you have a good idea of the glue flow and how quickly or slowly you should move in order to have a nice, neat bead of glue.

Step Six. Hold the freshly glued place card above the bowl of glitter. Using your other hand, pinch some glitter and sprinkle onto the glue. Repeat until you feel the glue has been amply covered with glitter. Blow away excess. Allow to dry for at least 2 hours.

Step Seven. Once completely dry, using an inky black pen, write the name of your guest onto the place card. Voila! You have now created a beautiful (and sparkly!) place card for your wedding day.

Ms Polka Dot says: What a lovely way to add some panache to a simple place card. Keeping it to silver gold or copper glitter will also add a touch of glamour without going over the top.
