We live in an era saturated with food blogs, reality cooking shows and self-confessed food snobs where food has undeniably evolved from just a fuel that keeps us alive to a cultural phenomenon!
With everyone assuming the critic title, the idea on what to serve your guests for your wedding can be quite daunting – and rightly so! To stay ahead of the game and impress even your most fashion forward foodies, the team at Showtime Events Centre has put together our predictions for the biggest culinary tends about to swoop the wedding world…
All Day Breakfast
We all brunch. It’s what we do. So it’s only natural that breakfast cuisine would slowly start escaping from its morning boundaries and find its way into our evening thoughts.
Incorporating treats that would traditionally be served prior to 12pm is such a fun way to inject some spunk into your festivities!
Think along the lines of a pancake station, loaded with fruits, choc chips and whipped cream! The essential “smashed avo” favourite can make its appearance during canapés, with the help of some crispy bacon topped with feta.
Or how about a “recovery breakfast station” as a replacement to the “sooo-overdone lolly buffet”? Let’s swap the gummy bears with some granola, and the freckles with some dried fruit! Wha-la! We have super fun stations for your guests to get ahead of their hangover and prepare a delicious paper bag (sealed with twine of course) full of yummy goodness for the morning after.
Family Ties
Pulling away all the glitter and tulle, a wedding is essentially a celebration to bring 2 families together. What better way to unite the sides with food!
Using an old family recipe can be such a special touch to the day and really brings it all back to earth with crowd-pleasing recipes that everybody knows and loves!
You could use Uncle Robs’ infamous barbeque sauce for the chicken drummets during cocktail hour. Mum’s peach marmalade picked straight from her garden as your favours? Or use Nonna’s Apple Pie recipe passed on down through the generations as the star for dessert.
It’s such a touching way to include another loved one in the celebration, and can give your guests an insight into your childhood memories closest to your heart.
Antipasto Everything
We seem to be obsessed with presenting our platters on wooden boards, slate, tree stumps, marble and tiles and we certainly don’t see this trend disappearing anytime soon.
Agreed, the visually stunning concept of a full table dripping with endless varieties of cheeses, cold meats, breads and fruits is not a new concept –however, we only see this idea taken to a whole new level in 2017!
Think freshly sliced prosciutto as the chef lays a toasted baguette with ripe tomato and dresses with a balsamic reduction right before your eyes. An array of freshly made dips, as the pita bread is toasted warm to order. Visually we’re looking at more opulent displays including hanging deli meats, a backdrop of shelves ladened with jars and spices, and natural timbers to bring warmth and love into the setup. It’s the perfect multi-purpose element – it tastes delicious and adds instant theming to your celebration! What more could you ask for?!
